I would also like to know what others would charge Mark. If the office was within ten miles from my studio, my charge for this simple gild job would be $450.

Re: How much would you charge
Mark,
I need a little more info.
Water or matt gilding?
On site or on a piece of glass they can hang?
on site, how far?
How were you planing to do the job? Back it up by hand? screen print the art?
If on sight is it a busy or slow location for the sign?
I would also suggest working on the art or lack of it. It's gold so it might be worth sprucing it up a bit.
Also you might think about adding a small outline. That way you could do your outline with a mask, water guild the insides , back up the gold , clean, varnish and go home.
If at all possible sell it on a glass panel they can hang in the window. That way you can do it the shop.

Re: How much would you charge
I too would use a mask, outline, gild, backup but I would add collect then go home.
I consider a plain job to include some type of shade or outline which sets us apart from someone who would just put a vinyl letter on the window. Too many customers do not have the appreciation for the gold itself as a quality product and have to be lead there. Some cannot tell the difference between gold and vinyl. Just look at the lack of knowledge of quality and its value in the era of discount store buying.
Price in our area $625 in town.

Re: How much would you charge
Thanks for all your inputs. Points well taken.
Customer is close by. I think too much copy to
do a matte center though. This would be a screen
print job. My thinking is I would do a translucent
enamel ink outline which would double as a backup
for the gold also.
You are right Kent not many people don't appreciate the
true gold leaf affair. It is up to us to sell them on
the difference by the way of samples. Recently I
bought some Signgold's burnished gold for doing
glass. This stuff is a JOKE! Glad I have it though
as now I can show the customer the difference.
Can't wait for _ Dave's gold leaf applicator to
come in.

Re: How much would you charge
I don't think that SignGold is a total joke. It has its place for economy...at least it is real gold...and it helps us point out how much better the real thing is.
I agree that the company name is fairly busy for a matte center, although that might make it more legible. The matte size could be put down with a mask with triple cut, then outline, then water gild, backup and run...with the payment.
