My "other" job

Post by joe cieslowski »

This is what I carve at my "day" job.

11" x 14", 5/4 pine. Second to last of a limited edition (each is an original carving but only 50 will be produced).

You're tellin' me, you've hand carved 49 of these?!

How long does it take to do one of these?

That's some fine detail for something that size.

You must have an avenue to sell these?...

...how much?

Kinda makes me wonder what you do at your night job.

Thanks for sharin' that. Beautiful, truth be told.

Thanks!

Believe it or not, I also offer it in a seperate seris with a sepia tone type look. It is also just one of a 3 piece set.....of the 150 "color" pieces.....the are only 3 or 4 left unsold.

It's less than a day carving time and a couple hrs to stain and clear.

Just doin my job... :D

Joe....great looking piece. I also would like to know if that is pine. It's hard to tell from a picture.

Thanks again everyone.....I started my 17 day fair, www.thebige.com on thurs. and today is my first day off.

I use eastern white pine. Ya didn't ask , but it's because...
1. it's white (ish) so I can do my color staining.
2. it's a traditional carving wood here in the northeast.
3. It's available!!!!!!!!! (in pretty wide boards)
4. It's reasonably soft so I can carve it pretty quickly with these tired old hands
5. The burnish that comes off the heal of the tools on the EW pine, gives me a little more control of the stains ( they don't penatrate as quickly as they wood (couldn't resist  ) in sugar pine)
6. The grain pattern (well defined spring and summer wood) really helps to enhance the illusion of a full 3D piece.

So that's it.....lotsa chores to do today, then back to the Big E!

Thanks again
