I wanted to share a couple of recent jobs I completed with you guys.

The 70 is on the transom & about 10" high, the logo is on the shop entrance door & it's about 21" wide.

Is this both matte and bright gold?

Thanks for noticing. His shop is on the lower east side nyc, pretty happening spot.
James is a cool dude and has quite a track record in the fashion scene from what I have heard.

I'll be doing 3 or 4 other shops on Orchard St. within the next two weeks.

I used 23k on the job, used the matte around the black graphics to make them pop.
The 70 is 23k burnished outline w/ 23k matte center w/ black painted outline & shadow.

(Bummer....... she wasn't on location when I was doing the job!)

Insane logo huh? (challenge!)

The logo was supplied to me via small file size JPEG
There was no vector art to make a mask. (logo artist disapeared???)

1- opened the logo JPEG in photoshop & reversed the art & played with the black until it was somewhat solid.
2- made a digital print on paper (enlarged it in the rip to size) I used a versacam for the print
3- placed paper w/image on the outside of the glass and started painting the black image.(talk about a workout)
4-Using rolco quick size I outlined & filled all of the black areas that I wanted to be different.
5-after the size set up I water gilded the entire area w/ 23k manetti.
6-When I backed up, I outlined the entire logo slightly so there was a super thin burnished outline around the whole imge.
7- cleared the job with window spar (yikes! I hope it holds!)

During drying time, I did the 70 on the transom

I always try to give it my all.

I forgot to mention that I also used an exacto to remove black paint in areas where it was too tight to get detail with a brush.

I'm thankful and grateful to live in an area where the business's have a taste for gold window lettering.

In manhattan, especially downtown every block is like a little neighborhood. All the business owners know each other and compare notes bigtime. Word travels fast!

When I work there, there are always a lot of spectators, passerbys and alot of questions about the work I'm doing. I try to make a point to talk to almost all of them and answer their questions the best I can.

It seems that about 50% of them are actually shop owners from around the area. I'm really not a good talker or salesman! But I honestly always try to spread the 'word' about gold window lettering. It seems the more they see it, the more they want it!

One question. Does step 4 mean the mat parts or are you doing some other process with the size?

I outlined and painted over (on top of) the black with regular quick size (straight out of the can) in the same manner you would paint in a matte center.

WOW Bob, glad to see you are still doing the great hand-work you love to do. It's been years and years since I met you and saw you last (when I was dating Gail Cullen's niece), at that time you were doing some computer work... I'm glad you didn't go the way of Bill Bergen!
