Scalloping tool

Happy New Year!!!!

I am looking for a scalloping tool, while searching on the web I found many different tools and as many different prices.
When I want to scallop glass upto thicknesses of 3 to 25 mm (1 inch) what would the best choice be?

More than likely, everyone here has the one Glawson used to sell. To answer that question, you may have to buy one of each and let us all know!

Rick had a lighter weight one he acquired somewhere when I was there one summer and we broke the end off after trying a few chips. I have been using the one like Danny makes for about 15 years and hve never even adjusted it.

Hi Erik,

The scalloper most are familar with is the one Rick had made, and was pictured in many old sign catalagues from the 1900's.

Other than that design, I've only seen 3 others that were worth considering. Those are pictured below.

The first is similar to the original tool, the second appears to be a heaver model, and the last one that can scallop glass up to 1" thick.

I've never tried the ones pictured, though they work in the same manner, just more money. The wholesale prices for the tools are approximately in order: $ 150, 250, and 450.

The ones sold on ebay are inexpensive and poorly made according to Sarah. She purchased one to try, if she checks in she might be able to elaborate.

The one I make, as Illustrated in Mike's post, has a double ended bit, and adjustable for various thicknesses of glass. It's not a double ended tool though, as you can only scallop one side at a time.
