Gilding a kitchen glass splash back

Post by Brian the Brush UK »

Hi,
After having a nightmare of finding dry rot in my kitchen floor and then having to replace the entire kitchen floor and put in new units I am considering reverse gilding a piece of 5mm safety glass and using it as a splash back to go on the back wall above the electric cooker hob. I am not sure how much heat will be emitted from the hob when its being used but Im sure some heat will hit the glass. My question is , has anybody gilded a glass splash back before and had good results ? how much heat will it take before the reverse gilding becomes damaged ? Please let me know your thoughts,

Kind regards,
Brian.
With a stroke more imagination.

Brian,

this page has back splashes. Look through his site, it's very extensive, and looks updated:

I would think the thickness you propose would be fine, but going directly behind a cooktop, I'd space the glass off the wall slighty, allowing for air circulation, preventing heat build up.
