Traditional, hand carved, ribbon sternboard with SxS

Post by joe cieslowski »

I make one of these every few years. Just doesn't seem to be a lot of call for them?

This is all HDU, about 4' long. Painted with latex and gold leafed. The ends are made in two layers.....each is 1" thick.

Each end takes about an hour and a half to carve.....doing the undercuts on the back and sanding takes another two hours.

I took quite a few photos for a step by step if anyone is interested.

Thanks,
Joe,

Simple......yet sooooo pretty. Must be in the crafstmanship.....in that last picture, one can see your sculpting is so smooth and right on, it literally looks like a thick ribbon bending and not something rigid.
