Question about Fine Gold Sign Co.

Post by Robare M. Novou »

I was looking for the start date of Esoteric Sign Supply and Fine Gold Sign Co., ....seems to me they started in 1981...is this correct? Or am I off a year or two?

Esoteric Sign Supply was established in 1987.

Fine Gold Sign Co. before that. Someone else will have to fill that date in.

Hi Danny,
I have a feeling Esoteric was started before 1987. Darla and I were traveling around the country in 1986. I think we were in Vermont at the time of the first one.

I suspect most of the information was in the article Signs of the Times did on him and his Angel Gilding product, but I haven't read it in a long time.

F.Glawson Studio De Lettres was started on May 4, 1972 which later became Fine Gold Sign Company. Esoteric grew out of there and although Rick was selling supplies when we met in 1983, he formed Esoteric with Lola in 1986.

Thanks Guys! I knew the answer was out there somewhere.

It still feels strange that they are no longer around.

I always looked forward to some new discovery from the folks at Fine Gold / Esoteric.

Hi Mike,

I only skimmed over the article in Sign of the Times, and didn't see any dates, though they may be there on closer examination.

Rick sent this link for a web site he was having created shortly before his passing: http://www.esotericsignsupply.com/ that displays 'Quality Products For The Professional Since 1987'. The link to the page is valid, but the page is static. I believe Chuck Davis was putting the site together; whether Rick provided the date specifically, I don't know.

What year did the Conclaves start? There were 18 years of Conclaves at his shop, so that would mean the Conclaves predate Esoteric Sign Supply (at the time Lola and Rick fromed Esoteric)? The last Conclave at Esoteric Sign Supply was Feb 2003, which would make the first one 1985.

Anyone looking for more information on Rick Glawson can find it here: http://www.theletterheads.com/glawson/glawsonmain.html, or by clicking on the tab on the top right side of this site.
