This one has yet to be installed - but I'm on a roll . . . We're just starting number 17 now.
This is a tribute to the 2 guys standing on the balcony overlooking the parade. They built the building that the frame/border was based on - Wills and Petrie. We try to give each community THEIR special story - but some don't have stories of significance to the Lincoln Highway. So on this one - like others - we featured a parade to celebrate the "Pavement Jubilee" - the celebration of having a paved main throughfare - the Lincoln Highway that ran through town.
Wills and Petrie weren't really on that building in that photo - but I painted them in as a surprise to the community . . . Ssssshhhhh . . . I luckily had a photo of the two of them standing on a balcony that I was able to use for reference.
The border added WAY too much time to this - and all my airbrushing and sponge techniques to get the concrete structure to look like granite were self-indulgent and unprofitable.
Live and learn . . .
Hope you like it:

As it will be for a few more murals, I designed this - Joey Marshall engineered it - and both Joe and I painted it. Here, I did the left side of the mural (car and background buildings) Joe worked on the right side. I painted the telephone pole also (which made a lot more sense with my design that featured an old banner stretching through the picture. They wanted the authentic arches that were part of the celebration. Design should have ruled over authenticity here...)
And to those who hear Mikey Meyer always poking fun at me and saying I can't paint . . . well, that's just not true!!

I'm just not very fast - nor remotely close to being as skilled - as Hueg . . . But like when golfers, you play to the skills of the other golfers. If they suck, you suck, If they're good, you play better . . .
Trying to emulate Hueg comes from asking him question after question after question - after watching him endlessly . . . Osmosis, I suppose.
Getting better - and that's the point . . .

Nice Work Jay!
Hey, remember when you was young...and those know-it-all folks told you to "pay attention and you just might learn something".
Remember that?
Good thing you were paying attention.
Keep up the good works!
