Lincoln Highway mural number 17 . . . Maple Park, IL

Post by Jay Allen »

Well . . . except for border work - and the wall behind the tow truck on the right - plus the pavement - I painted this one in its entirety.

It was blessed, I guess (seeing as how I'm pretty happy with the results of painting my first human being - and never mind that he doesn't full resemble the model I was using) because Bill Hueg painted that wall and the pavement to give me a jumpstart when he was here briefly last month. His push and encouragement must have worked . . . because other people who have come in have also said what they always said about his amazing work when he was here working, "It looks like a picture"

That has felt pretty doggone good each time I've heard it said since I got started on this one. As my good buddy Dan says: Step outside your comfort zone and work it until it looks like it needs to. You can do it. (That said, I have a long way to go . . .)

I did this tribute to hometown gas stations in about 45 hours - that included brush cleanup and mixing of colors. (Add another 4.5 hours for Hueg's work) It took 2 men about 4 hours to project and draw the pictorial elements. The border work was done by the always efficient and precise Joey Marshall - and me. That added about 30 hours between the two of us . . .

With design and Photoshop work (the car, tow truck and man were added) - call it 85 hours from start to finish.

Anyway . . . I'm saying it's done - except for the sponsor logos. Number 18 will be a tribute to a fairgrounds along the Lincoln Highway in Morrison, IL.

Hope you like it:

Hey, Jay....

that's pretty good, huh?

Who knows how far you would have gone if you'd gotten rid of those pink shorts sooner.
and he took that golden hair and made a sweater for baby bear.

Tony Seagull . . . Yep - just imagine if I weren't such a fashion nightmare . . .!!

Hey, like I've said many times . . . if you're going to get paint on your clothes, who cares if it's pink . . .

Comfy in my ability to wear it . . . and my wife doesn't seem to hate it. So there you go . . .

Ever see the Shock's around, Tony? My host family? If so, please let them know - like Alton - I'm still on the planet . . .
