Me Likes a Good Mystery...Hows About You?

Post by Robare M. Novou »

OK, so a while back I see this photo of a building.

I see something in the photo.

No Way!

Way!

This Building, and the firm in it are still in business.

Can anyone see what I see in the photo?

I'll bite. I enlarged the photo, but it is not hi-rez.
But from what i can tell it looks to be a bank building.
I may be nutz but I'm guessing that it is the same bank that Rick had a glue chipped advertising sign of, hanging in his shop. I have a picture of it somewhere.
I know this is a WILD guess, due to the span of years involved. It would have to be some king of time warp or something if I am correct.

Yes, its a bank building. And "no" you're not nutz.

And I do not think Rick had anything to do with it.

The Bank was organized in 1919, and it's building erected in 1924.
Signs were ordered. And once received...placed on either sides of the main entrance doors.
Where they remain to this day.

Now you know that. But what kind of signs are they and who made them?

And for extra points...where is this building?

A clue is....a lot of you have seen this building and not even known it.

Well, once again, the photo is bad for enlarging- but...
Judging from how well those signs have withstood the ages, I would guess them to be either cast or acid etched brass with a black lacquer in fill. Can't tell if they are curved or flat.
They may have been made by Gorham Bronze Manufacturing(1905-1978).
As far as the location, the road is paved with bricks, so i would throw a guess at Kansas.
As far as how I might have seen it before, without knowing, I would guess I would have seen it in a period movie, something like Bonnie and Clyde or maybe Dillinger with Johnny Depp.
Am I right? Am I close??

Yes, the photo is bad for enlarging...I planned it that way.

Brass Tablets....Nooooo.

These are not Brass or Bronze...They're Glass!

And No...not Kansas City or Dillinger.

Here's another hint...try looking at it with your "good eye".

Looks like the building that David Butler uses on his web site to me.

It might be...I don't remember what his building looks like.

Here's another hint...The building is from a movie that a few of the users of this site are familiar with.

Now use your "Good Eye" and see if you can figure it out.
