Sign Museum Virtual Tour

Post by Tod Swormstedt »

For those of you who can't make it to Cincinnati any time soon, you can now (finally) take a 9-1/2 minute virtual tour by going to the home page--http://www.signmuseum.org--and clicking on either the Quicktime or RealPlayer format versions. The tour was "done" in early October and we've made many more additions, but it's not bad. We just added on another 1700 sq. ft. for larger signs (eff. January 1). Let me know what you think . . . and thanks for all your support.

After looking at the Virtual Tour, one thing stood out, Tod. You are not only actively involved in the acquisition of the pieces, finding the right location (and all the related activities), and securing corporate sponsorships, you are also pounding nails, screwing in light bulbs and getting paint under your fingernails.

True leaders lead by example. Need I say more?

Kudos to you and your entire family for not just talking the talk, but also walking the walk for the past 99 years. Your contributions to this industry are as important and necessary as the sign-making 'foot-soldiers' who have been building signs for the last century - and even earlier. I, for one, thank you for that and look forward to seeing the museum in person soon. You should be very proud of what you all are doing.

P.S. - They spelled your name wrong at the end of the video.

Leave it to a signman to point out the misspellings!!

Tod, I took the tour. Great!
And I sent the link to a friend. He is not a sign person, but is in a related field. I thought you might be interested in his reply:

I took the real player tour and it worked great. The sign biz to some folks
represents the less than aesthetically pleasing part of our landscape. To
me the sign landscape lends a human touch to everyday business. It's a
formal but friendly and personal invitation to do business. I'll never
forget going through the East German countryside on the US troop train to
Berlin. Each small town looked exactly the same. Drab and lifeless. No
signs. When you looked over the Berlin wall, you saw a socialist police
state, monotone, rigid, very depressing. Turn around and everywhere signs
told you that individuals had the power to say what they wanted. Just an
old sign person at heart. :-)
Art is a technique of communication. The image is the most complete technique of all communication.
