Finally able to get back on(cpu stuff)...Dave, Tony couldn't have said it better...love everything, but the thing that turns my crank too, are those hand drawings...I guess its a way of seeing how your head & hand work and as Doug mentioned earlier, shows just how much study and research goes into this, something you lose when you just see it as a computer rendering....Thanks for posting, awesome...Pat

Agreed regarding the original hand drawings. It would be nice to have a cover with it done at that stage.

Dave - I didn't mean to embarrass you or make you uncomfortable with my remark. It's just the way these things sometimes strike me. I have a number of people who inspire me and who I learn from; several of them post here frequently. You are one of them and it just pushes me to be better. If I think back on where I was early in the craft and where I am now it is a little more encouraging, realizing that I've grown a bit.

The signature in my email is:
"The lyf so short, the craft so long to lerne." Geoffrey Chaucer (c. 1340 - 1400)

He was actually quoting Hippocrates from a thousand years before him. The principle will be no less true for our descendants 1000 years from now.

Now I won't hold you to your poster offer, but if you happen to remember, I will treasure it!

Thankyou all very much ,what a nice bunch of friends to have . Dan you never embarrased me mate, I appreciate what you said and it's the same for me about all your work and others. I often think what Rick Glawson would of been turning out now ,that would be pretty amazing to see. Always trying to push boundaries with our skills. Here is an antique version of the artwork. Thank you all again....

I don't think anyone has alluded to this so far but according to this March 9th notice on his website, it looks like John Mayer's tour is cancelled because the granuloma in his throat has re-appeared.

The album with Dave's artwork is still being released, but the tour is cancelled indefinitely as he receives treatment.

The used card(album cover) look puts it over the top. Thanks, Dave.

Dan. Yes his throat problem came back. Are you a fan of his work? I think he will do the tour once he has healed from his operation. Such ashame for him after all the hard work he and his band put in. If you look on his site take a look at the guitar he had made by Fender, they had someone paint roses all over it, they made a beautiful job.

Here is a nearly completed shot of the artwork.

Dave,

Yeah, I am a fan of his music. Not only his songwriting but the unique phrasing and rich tone in his voice all contribute to the beauty of his singer/songwriter style. I certainly hope he gets better. Had experience very recently with a family member who had granuloma after surgery and it was very painful. It required a second surgery to correct it.

The sketch looks great. It's larger than I had thought but I'm sure it was needed to translate the kind of detail you have into the album cover and posters.

Thanks Dan, I will pass this message you posted onto him. He has had one surgery already and I think he is due for this next one soon. He's pretty good about what has happened and is already writing other songs and staying creative . I had some files sent me a few days back showing the credits on the album and the thank you's from John to the people that helped him make it happen, pretty cool seeing my name in those credits.
Exciting times to come from this and other work.

Many thanks mate.

Hi Dave,
Just being nosey on that pencil artwork.
Do you have some huge scanner to get the finished work onto the computer or did you then paint it and take a picture?
regards
Anthony

Hi Anthony. You can be as nosey as you want to mate. I did a search locally and found some one with a drum scanner but the artwork was still too big on the width by about 2''s ,so I reverted to my original plan of scanning it in Photomerge in CS5 and it worked brilliantly! a few minor adjustments in overlapping but apart from that really good. The sketch has been used for the internal sleeves of the LP's for this album release in May.

Wow! All those tones of grey done with a pencil or pencils? that is so cool.
(although there may be a number of printing tricks that I wot not of)
It seems like you made it easy for the printer - the print could be flat areas of color.
where am i? Now, when i need me...

Simply fantastic David. You never cease to amaze me with what's in your head, and that you are able to get it to flow through your fingers. You continue to set the standard higher and higher.

Your dedication to the craft and your search for excellence is beyond belief. You must have a tremendous amount of patience to stick with something this complex. I would have been bonkers after the first hour or so.

And to top off everything else, you're just a really swell guy. It's so nice that I get to call you a friend.

Looking forward to the next "over the top" design. My best to you always.

Well i really don't know what to say to that compliment Raymond. You and many other people here have inspired me in my work, I appreciate this Ray and will one day come back and have another Mexican meal with you. It was mexican right? or did we have Indian food ? whatever it was it was great spending time with such a nice friend. Thankyou also Lee.

Yes, it was Mexican...and you were very gracious to eat whatever it was and like it, even if you didn't know what it was.

Our last personal meeting was at Rick's funeral...and you were gracious there as you always are. It was good to share a breakfast with you and enjoy our conversation.

You carry that same humble spirit as Rick did and always are eager to help others. That's a great trait.

Keep up the great work and inspiration to the rest of us.
