Post by Kevin Bergin » Sat Mar 24, 2012 1:36 pm

Hi guys,

I just stumbled across http://billheads.blogspot.com and I figured there's got to be a few of you that love old billhead as much as I do, so I just hadto share it. Hope you enjoy it! Does anyone else have a collection of billhead?

do you think that the original artwork done for these is the same scale as on the billlhead. Also what would be the original medium Pens, watercolor, brushes? I dont know much about illustration or calligraphy.

I'm not 100% on what the initial medium was- I'm guessing it was either done in pen, and transferred to lithography plates or engraved by hand into metal plates. Most of it is one color- black, and all of the differences you see in tone are done by varying line width and crosshatch spacing.

I know it's a little bit of a shaky picture, but you can see the process in more detail here

Here's another website worth trolling through...

Classic Ragtime Sheet Music

More great oldtime layouts and some really nice fonts as well!
