LP's are back ! Born and Raised cover, John Mayer

Post by DAVE SMITH »

Sony sent me the completed album cover I made for John Mayer. Something about these old LPs and the quality to them.
so much nicer than a cd case. Was pleased to receive this on Monday and on my Birthday of all day's!

Looks Great Dave!

I really like the way you worked in that "UPC" Label...it looks so inconspicuous....

Will they be sending you a record player next?

They should, along with a few CD's.

Keep up the Good Work and be sure and do what you want on your Birthday...which is probably gilding some masterpiece or something.

Cheers.

Finished at last!

The back cover is a very nice, understated complement to the front cover - which makes such a bold statement. I like the fact that it doesn't compete with the front (as if you could view front & back simultaneously) but it elegantly frames the song titles. (In the second photograph, are those duotone inside sleeves peeking out underneath the back cover?)

I have a turntable but got rid of all my vinyl albums. There is, of course, a debate about the sound quality of vinyl being much better than digital but I haven't entered that discussion and have no idea which is preferable.

I'd frame that and do some nice gold work on the glass to compliment it.

Happy birthday Dave!

Now that's what I'm talking about! That album cover looks even more
vivid than your original art. Vinyl is a happenin' thing again I hear. CD cases are
so whimpy. Very interesting to see this show up in vinyl.
You did real good on this project Dave.

Thanks you guys , yes they are duatones Dan, I played it today and it does sound so much better on the old record players ,very nostalgic sound.

I would like to make it in glass around 4ft square, need to speak with Sony about this, would be nice as a one off panel but lots of work! probably a years work as it would be all done by hand with no screen printing.

Thanks!

I just got to get me one of these! I've got the CD, but this is way cooler. You're right Dave, hearing a tune on an LP is different. You "feel" the music too.
I'm very proud of you mate.

Hi Mike.

You can get it from these places. probably best click the second link as it shows they are selling all over the States on that link. Is Casper anywhere near you?

Very cool in LP, only problem i noticed with the back they have put one of the shade layers too far in front of the leaves, only designers will spot it.

Out of my control for the part.

Thanks Mike
