Hello all,
I was looking for a technique I have seen on a few boat names. Hand gilded name with a
v-carved look. The gold looks as if it is manipulated in 2 or 3 different directions. Very realistic. I actually had to walk up to one name and touch it to find out that it was not actually carved. I have been hand painting for 30 years. Any help on this technique would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Henry R.

Was probably just directional burnishing. Dan Seese wrote a good article on it (albeit on glass)

Noel Weber & I did this one a few weeks back. Depending on whether it's getting direct or indirect light, and what the light source is changes the effect where some areas are darker, others lighter etc.

or if you're doing a surface gild... it could look like this. midgleys letters are 1.5" hdu flat cut.
after rereading your post henry...you asked for a v-carved look, not prismatic
