Reference material

Post by Doug Bernhardt »

Was just ruminating over great work I've seen over the years and was wondering if anyone knows where the "Boss" got his reference material for this fine piece. Outright theft is a great compliment and have done that many times. Maybe someone can get in touch with the guys who worked with Rick on this like Dave Trujillo. I've lost touch with him over the years. I'd love to know where the original oil painting came from.

Back in 2013, we did this piece as a meet project.
Mr. Dickinson talked about doing a train piece, so I put
this artwork together. I referenced Rick's "Pier Pale Ale"
for the "End of the Line" letters as a tribute to him.

David Trujillo is alive and well and living in Southern California.
He's been studying art, playing music, and doing glass
restoration, etc. He made it up here with the gang in July.
He's going to be teaching a color theory workshop at the
Esoteric Gold Company in Bakersfield, CA next month. (Nov. 11th & 12th)

Great looking piece and almost as over the top as Rick's. When you see Dave say hi for me (I've lost track of him since....) and see what he has to say about the Redondo Beach piece. Would love to know.

I love that piece, Doug. Stunning to see it in person at the bar on Manhattan Beach (I don't recall the name). I wonder if they still have Rick's work hanging in there.
Maybe Bill Hueg did the oil painting? Not sure.
