Edge Chipped Glass Posted by Dennis Davis on February 18, 2004
In one of the samples that I have viewed in the past few days it had edge chipped glass. Is that style of glass purchased already chipped or is there a techinque for creating it? Thank you.

You can buy an edge-chipper from Danny Baronian at Baronian Mfg. I don't know the price but I am sure Danny can tell you. They are pretty cool. I'd love to get some step by step instructions on the proper use and adjustments. Rick Glawson found an original one and had Danny make them for him at Esoteric Sign Supply.

Thanks Mike. I contacted Danny and he sent a me a picture of the nipper and some glass that had been chipped. The price of the tool is $60.00.

Dennis,
I talked to Danny the other day and he told me the price, too. He says he keeps meaning to add them to his web site, but he has been so busy with other projects. He has some of Rick's old instruction sheets, so maybe he will either post them on his site or let me put them in the Glawson section someday.

They are pretty cool tools.

Here's a sign Larry White sent over that Rick had in his shop. I think Rick did this one but I am not certain of it. Larry had it in a folder called "Glawson Signs".

You can see how nicely the edge of the glass was chipped.

....thanx Mike . I'll always remember this piece as it was right ontop of (or almost)the book counter at Glawson and Evans. If I remember correctly Rick said it was an extra from several commercial pieces he did for a local business. A great habit is an extra when it comes to glass. I actually have quite a few that are chipped and bright lined "just in-case" pieces kicking arround. Also the little "knipper" is a terrific tool. Bought one way back from Rick and has always given good service. Used many times but last time I saw one of them in Danny's kit i saw improvements. If I hadn't been so distracted by all the comings and goings would have snagged another right there. You never know when the last opportunity for something may arise.
