OLD FORUM POSTS
Anyone else collecting sign or art related books, or is Mike the only one chasing them down?

What the favorite book on your shelf, or books you'd like to add the collection?

Yo Danny?

Here are a few... "LETTERING" by THOMAS WOOD STEVENS Copyright 1916. There are 102 illustrations of various roman and gothic penned styles by Hapgood, Dwiggins, Gage, Goudy, Bradley etc.

"poster design" by J.I. BIEGELEISEN Copyright 1945. This was manufactured in accordance with the regulations of the War Production Board

"The Art of WOOD CARVING" by JOHN UPTON 1958. Photos galore (mostly by Flye). Over 100 Illustrations.

I got my eye on one from around 1920...You know,
real fancy colorful. Maybe I'll go shoot out after
it today. One more cant hurt.

Hi, I collect old sign books. I'd like to add Al Imelli's "The Book of Alphabets and Layouts" and "The Coast Manual of Lettering and Designs". I think my favorite is Copley's Plain & Ornamental Standard Alphabets from 1870 or maybe for some good eye candy an ICS book "Sign and Banner Making, Practical Design and Ornament" from 1906. Its really hard to have a favorite with so many neat old sign books out there.
John Harl
Michael Harvey's "Creative Lettering Today" Chris Pye's "Lettercarving in Wood" Edward Catich's "The Origin of the Serif" a german book about stonecarving Schrift and Symbol David Esterley's "Grinling Gibbons an the Art of Carving" and John Steven's "The Character"
