Robert BeverlyHello again,
I have known about this product for a while, but have been waiting to see where Esoteric was going. I did some digging around and found the company that supplied Rick with his black back up paint. The company used to make the product called Dekor Gloss (Colonial with a new name). The product is called FDE (Fast Dry Enamel) and is a standard, readily available screen ink in about any color you can imagine. Rick bought the black ink, added some orange scent and labeled it as Find Gold Back Up.
I spoke with the company chemist and he told me this product is the "same" as the old Dekor Gloss ink...but the FDE does seem to be a tiny bit different. Basically, I always thought Dekor was a little tougher and Rick admitted it, but said it was the best substitute he could find.
The company sent me a quart of the FDE in red and it looks and smells the same as Fine Gold back up. As far as I could determine, they only sell it in gallons, but it might be possible for someone to dig around to some of their distributors for quarts.
Also, it appears Peacock Labs is now selling Angel Gild kits. The person who confirmed it to me said they are charging about 5 times the price Rick did. I haven't personally called to get more details, but it is possible they are selling the gold part in a more concentrated form. I don't know this one way or the other, but it might explain the difference in prices. Peacock sells silvering supplies and are probably heavily staffed with chemists who can refine the process.
Hope this information helps. If anyone has time to follow up with Peacock or Sericol, we'd love to get progress reports.

I have had several conversations with Sagar over the past few months at Peacock and have been working with him to provide the product. I do beleive his solution is in fact more concentrated and we were working to establish some consistency between what Rick was selling and their products.
As for amounts, I have been getting my kit together to photograph and measure for Sagar's evaluation along with the instructions that Rick provided to see if he can come up with apples to apples. He is sincere in trying to make this happen.
Right now, the amount is for the gold only at 300.00 for a 100ml solution set., but again, he would like to see this happen as do I.
And...FYI, They developed this process in the late 20's early 30's with their first order to the "Cadillac" company quoting Sagar. They found purchase receipts and it's use was for the rear veiw mirrors..."it reduced reflection more"
I do know of one other Letterhead that is close to putting the process together and he hopes to have it down by summers end. This process as well protected as some think it should be is already out there and should be shared.
In closing, Fred Self and I are creating a special gift for Lola and here is just a small part of the puzzle. I hope you all enjoy!
Angel Gild Article from Signs of the TimesRobert, You may be getting some good information from Sagar and hopefully Peacock will get their price closer to Rick's. FYA, F.O. Andres Sr. developed the process much earlier than 1920, then went around selling the materials and process to some commercial glass shops. The 1920 Matthews discusses the process sold by Mr. Andres. Since he obtained the patent, I'd say he got out of the starting gate first on this process. You can read more about the process and its history on the page linked below.
Hopefully, when you and your friend figure Angel Gilding out, you will share it with the rest of the world.
Thanks for the update,
Mike Jackson

[/quote]Mike,
While Andres Sr. patented the process in 1920, and Bruno both patented and published a similar process in his book, both came to realize the process was never viable on the commercial market. I don't know what happened to Andres, but Bruno made more money peddling his book to sign and plating shops than with the angel gild process.
Rick's pleasure came from doing it..... because he could.
