A customer of mine who owns an electrical contracting firm, bought an old truck('30s) and would like it lettered out according to the style practiced at that time. Any resources I can look at?

You might try these books, some are out of print but most are available through Amazon through thier used book dealer network:

"Typology"-Steven Heller, Louise Fili

"Graphic Style"-Steven Heller

"Design Connoisseur"-Steven Heller, Louise Fili

"Handbook or Early Advertising Art, Typographic Volume"-Clarence P. Horning

"Alphabets and other signs"-Julian Rothenstien, Mel Gooding

Check out a copy of Alf Beckers "100 alphabets" book. It was published in 1941. Im sure that there are a few from the 30s in there.

Try this book available at Amazon and probably lots of other places. It would give you a good feel of the look of the period.

It was a period of time when letterstyles typically were heavy sans serif...typically much more plain than the couple of decades prior.

Good luck,
