Mike JacksonI'm looking for any one who might have a copy of the Mike Stevens Lettering video and or any of the Ed Roth videos or books. If any one can tell me where to get these items i would greatly appreciate it. Ps. I have an old 16mm Color film of a sign shop from my area that was given to me by a friend, that shows this company in 1945 Making wooden letters and guilding them. They are also installing them on a mill buolding that is still stsnding today. they also show installing an electric sign and too many more cool things to list(Its Like seeing a hollywood movie about signs in the 1940's , It cool if your into old sign work.
Raymond ChapmanThis question came up on this BB about a year ago. Carol Chapel suggested Pacific Coast sign supply still had some, but when I called, they said they would call back--but never did. Someone else told me they did look around, but didn't have any.
Dave Simpson at SignDNA has some connections with Mike Steven's daughter. It might be possible to get her to have a few dozen copies made up, but who knows. Maybe someone can chase them down for us. At the time they were available, I watched about 10 minutes of it at a room at the Memphis Letterheads Meeting. It was real "sleeper"...not much different than watching paint dry. However, I wasn't actually needing the specifics of his information at that time. It would be a nice item to add to the library.
Good luck,
Mike Jackson
Mike JacksonI have a copy of Mike Steven's video and would be glad to make some copies if permission could be obtained. You can't have my orginal, though.
Contrary to Mr. Jackson, I thought it was very helpful, but at the time I was doing a lot of show cards and the information was more geared to quick, casual lettering.
Hi Raymond,
That's how you got so good! You had that video all along and never told us. Maybe you can contact Dave Simpson at www.signdna.com and get her phone number.
I have some fly tying videos like that, too. They are painstakingly slow for me to watch now, but at the time, I needed every little tidbit of information about every twist and turn. Now, I like the videos that can show the technique for tying the fly in about 3-5 minutes.
Raymond, it is snowing here again this morning. It reminds me of you coming up here in May about 15 years ago. Green one day and then white the next.

No, the way I got so good (if you want to call it that) was by following people like you around and stealing every bit of information that I could.
Ah, sweet memories. Has it been 15 years? Every once in a while I will get out those pictures of the snow and dream a little. Especially in the summer. Today it is supposed to be in the 90's. The sweat is beginning to form!
Ronald,
I hope this helps your seach. before Ed died Moon products was handling alot of his stuff and they might have a web site or Try www.edbigdaddyroth.com or write to404e 300 n manti Ut. and attn. to Dennis Roth.Let me know what you come up with.
The 16mm video sounds wonderfull.I would be very excided to see it.I am not sure how it would work but I would love to put it or some parts of it on my web site.www.ghosttownsigns.com.
Thats what the site is all about.I started it because I had so much stuff from my father and I wanted a place so that everyone could see the history of sign artists.I am hopefull with help from people like yourself that the site will keep growing.
Let me know what I can do to help.

I just returned from a visit to an old letterheads place, John Oldham, Waco, Texas. He hosted an international meet back in the early 90's. He had video from quite a few different instructional sources like Roth that I understand are no longer available. Once confirmed I have a barter partner that will be converting these to dvd for me. I will keep ya abreast of the situation. I just need to make sure that there will be no copyright violations but the discs would be handed out for next to nothing upon clarifications. I counted 20 videos!

Im going to have a vhs copy made of it very soon. If you would like to get a copy i could probebly send you one. You'll might like it... I thougt it was kind of kool seeing how things were back in th 1940's. there are no copyrights to it. it was given to me as a gift by a old signpainter. he was friends with the people who made it and they gave it to him. these people who owned the sign shop have all passed away. I may also see if the sign museum might want a copy of it to. It is definitly something that could be shared with the letterhead people.
