Blue Pacific ShellNorm Dobbins at Etchmasters gave me the name of this source. They sell the sheets of Abalone, Mother of Pearl, Paua, and many other colors in sheets about 5" x 9". I don't know if this is the same source Rick used, but it is close enough.
I added them to the list, too.

Larry WhiteWill someone please tell us if abalone and mother of pearl are the same thing?
Mike & Folks...
Seeing how this abalone source was just over the bridge from my shop, I ran over at lunch.
But, bad news/good news.
Bad News- Laminated Fabricators' last day in business is April 30th. I bought the last of their stock.
Good News- The gal there told me where she got it from. Dig it... they've got 12 different kinds of shell available as raw or tinted in any of 80 or so colors...you do the math.
So Mike, add them to your list:

Ron PercellMike Jackson - Check Out This Larry White Sign!
Here's a photo of a sign made by Larry White..."modeled after one of Glawsons. It measures 112" x 36". Glue chipped and silvered with hand blended background and marble panel."
Nice job Larry!

Larry WhiteWonderful Panel Larry,
thanks for the eye candy
Mike jackson - Changes MadeThanks for posting this picture for me and thanks for your labors on the supplies list!
FYI- I made the frame too! I first made a substructure of 2 x 6 that the sign fit into, then I added 4" baseboard molding surounded by oval handrail molding. All courtesy of Lowe's Home Improvement Center. The whole thing cost about $110. I finished it off with a few coats of red mahogany "Polyshades" stain and urethane in one. It truly is the focal point of our less than beautiful shop.
Thanks Rick Glawson for all the education, attention, inspiration and love over the years!

Kent SmithHi Larry,
Since you bought Pacific Blue out, I took them off the list and added Aqua Blue Maui. Thanks for doing the leg work on this source.

Rick SacksChuck Erickson, the Duke of Pearl, was at the Conclave and the funeral too. Rick had lots of Chuck's flyers on the counter, still there last Tues. Can't find his card right now but he has been at many Letterheads meets and has all types of shell.
Mike Jackson - Duke of PearlChuck is only selling in quantity now and is in the process of selling 49% of his company. He will not deal with production anymore, only research and development. Chuck Erickson lives in Grass Valley and his phone is 916-273-4116
Hi Rick,
I don't know for certain if I ever met the Duke of Pearl at any of the conclaves. Neat name! He probably has some valuable information stuck in his head. I don't know if Rick was buying his sheet abalone and mother of pearl from Blue Pacific Shell or not, but the pieces I see on their site looks very close and will probably fill that need. At one time, Rick invested in all the equipment to be able to grind his own shells. Chuck probably helped him get set up.
