Any word on the "One Shot" Clear Overcoat Varnish?

Post by Doug Fielder »

I remember reading that since Chromatic was bought out, 1-Shot didn't have plans on producing the Clear Overcoat Varnish for a while. Have they made any since? Is it the same stuff? It seems the more experienced window letterers on here swore by the stuff, and my original can is getting low. Or, does anyone have a source?

Thank you,
Doug Fielder

Do you mean the Super-Gloss Tinting Clear #4006?
If so, it seems to be as scarce as hen's teeth.
I don't mean the UV clear in the white can, this stuff has a yellow label.
It seems to only come in a pint size, wish it was sold as a half-pint.
At this point I would settle for any amount!
I have only ever been able to get it from Pioneer Supply in Pittsburgh,
or when I have a meet sometimes 1-S would throw in a can.
Great product.
Love....Jill

I am talking about the old Chromatic Clear Overcoat Varnish that was used for clearing over reverse gold work on glass. This stuff only came in Pints.
I have a qt of the Super Gloss Tinting Clear, don't remember where it came from, I don't use it too much. The last job I used it on was a transparent aqua airbrush fade on glass.
I would call every sign suppier I could think of, for the SGTC, somebody has it.

Doug, have you used Commonwealth Bulletin varnish for finishing glass gold? I think the Percells still carry it at Letterhead Sign Supply.

The Chromatic products are becoming very rare anymore.

Hey Cam,

I still have about a half pint of the Chromatic COV, but ordered up some Commonwealth WW Window Varnish from Esoteric.
I have only used the Asphaltum from Commonwealth, I hope the rest is of the same quality.
