This general store in Central Tilba, New South Wales, now trading as Bate's Emporium, was opened by "Crapp and Boxell" on the 1st January 1895.
A sign in the shop claims it was the largest store on the south coast in it's era. There were seven wagon teams delivering goods between Bega and Moruya.
This particular town has a very pretty and original streetscape of old timber buildings and the surrounding district area thrives mainly on tourism and cheese making.

Its always a treat to see old gold work. thank you for sharing these pix.
Interesting detail on the hanging bike. Besides it appearing to be hung with the fork and wheel 180degrees around, there appears to be no front axle between the spokes. There is no axle but there does seem to be a more substantial bearing hub connected to the pedal cranks. What was the reasoning in that design I wonder?

Funny, I didn't even notice that before. It must be just for show and missing the axle, isn't it?

This bicycle was based on the velocipede model.
I think you could ride with it as it hangs there.
Very strange indeed, looks like someone was very handy.
