They didn't ask for any soil, truth be told.
I think I'd have to agree. Perhaps now's not the time. Doesn't mean there will be a time....

Re: Original Dead Men...
Gotta keep things where they belong....
Not bad... English....
Congratulations....
Tell me, was it neccessary to do all that brilliant cutting?
I have no time for this complexity, English. You know that.
I started this craft in the eighties, and before my eyes rot,
I wanna try some of that brilliant cutting, here in Machine.
...we've traveled along way just the same, and fast.
Don't play the sick man with me, Mr. English. I knew you
when you were just barely silverin'. I've watched your skill
level rise a little more everyday. Any normal man'd design
a bit less complex, but you...you just get a little more intricate.
Otherwise, you ain't changed any.
You're gonna need somebody more and more everyday to stay near you.
...like a friend. How does it feel doing something that elaborate, English?
It's almost like one of mine...only much more time consuming. You see,
seeing this stuff of yours, uh, I'm beginning to think big too.
This Gerald Whittaker Sign, is giving me ideas.
I'm sorry for me, English. I'm doing my best.
I'll never succeed in becoming like you. There are many things
I'll never understand. Complex designing is one of them. You see English,
there are many different techniques...and the only sign that can top this one,
is your next one.
Maybe Mr. Black can teach you a few more things...like keeping it simple...
Design time and cut sandblast mask, 20 minutes.
Cut glass, mask, blast, flow the glue, 30 minutes.
Cut the glue and remove the mask, 15 minutes.
Good is good...punties or not.
Not bad... English....
Congratulations....

Re: Original Dead Men...
Ahh, Larry, would you be trying to get the Englishman to regress in his skill level. Nay, I think not. He is so skilled with them punties that it's scary...not to mention all the other skills that he has perfected over the years. Me, I got a Dremel tool that we could do some punties with. Maybe not polished like those of the Englishman, but it would be a start.
Thunderstorms here in Weber Country. Say, speaking of that group, I might take come pictures of the finished project they did for the Fire/Police department building. It looks real nice...like you'd expect from that bunch, course they needed help from Bill to get it right.
All this aside, I do like the beginnings of your Guns/Ammo sign. You are a skilled craftsman. I seen your work when you and that guy with the bonnet hid out in the back room at Noel's place. That room weren't much bigger than a two hole privy.
You stay safe. Keep your nose into the wind. Funny things happen in Machine.

'course one man's discardable old chair back, is a treasure for one Mr. Bill Blake.
Nice chipping....very nice chipping.
Clean off remaining glue, hack'n'slap a mask, block in color, 30 minutes.
Ya Dennis, quit whistlin' Dixie and dust off that old post and bring it back to the top of the list with some pictures of that finished endeavour!
40,000 views...I'll be darn....

Re: Original Dead Men...

Peel mask, 1st water gild, 45 minutes.
Patch holidays in gild, back with spray shellac, then back with gold spray paint, 30 minutes.
From the front.
Installed into the frame and mounted up in Machine, 1 hour.
Well, there you go English! And maybe faster than you! Just a hair under 6 hours, start to finish! So, tell me Mr. English, ah, how do you play this game?
It's easy, if you can gild, and if you can keep it simple!

Re: Original Dead Men...
Now that is one fine looking chair back. You do good work for a Californian. Now, the Englishman, I think he won't be racing with you on these projects. A man needs to have a cup of tea and a few biscuits to build up his strength for quality gilding. I can't be sure what those beans and ribs are doing for you. Gas, maybe.
Anyway, nice job on that Guns and Ammo piece. I seen your work up close and I like it. You planning on coming back to Boise for some more learning? Maybe some quality sushi?
Take care.

Well, it happened again, a bunch of scoundrels showed up here in Machine for some gildin' and some eatin' and to watch a few good movies. When all was said and done, we were able to roll 18 movies over the weekend. One after another...and we enjoyed it!

Jenco & I were thinking back on the movies we watched last year...couldn't remember 'em all, truth be told. Figured I'd write 'em down, here and now, for reference for next time....
There Will be Blood, not really a western, but definately worth watchin'
The Great Silence
Dead Man
Appaloosa
Django
Open Range
A Fistful of Dollars
Dead Man's Bounty, be careful with Polish westerns
For a Few Dollars More
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
My Name is Nobody
Wild Bill
Four of the Apocalypse
Ravenous
El Topo
Unforgiven
Once Upon a Time in the West
The Ballad of Cable Hogue
....if there's a next time......

Way, Way Out West with Nolte and Marilyn Manson
Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 1:56AM
"Here's a movie you won't mistake for High School Musical: Chilean filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky has spent the past several days grabbing money from investors at Cannes to fund his upcoming King Shot, which according to Empire will be "a metaphysical spaghetti western." Mmmmm...metaphysical spaghetti...
There have been metaphysical westerns before, notably Jarmusch's Dead Man, but none of them have been co-produced by David Lynch or have starred Nick Nolte and Marilyn Manson. Yeah, that's legit; he's a star now in the dope show.
When you think about it, though, Manson (née Brian Warner) has been acting for over a decade. His entire public persona is a character to some degree. Nolte, when motivated, can still be a tremendous asset.
If you're unfamiliar with Jodorowsky, it's probably because he doesn't work that often. If you're under 30, he's only made three films in your lifetime, and King Shot will only be the director's seventh film in 40 years. The 80-year-old Jodorowsky will begin filming the $7 million western this October with a cast that also includes Udo Kier and Asia Argento, who don't exactly crank up the normal on this project, do they?
Having said all that, how can you not be interested in what the end result will be? You've got a shock rocker and Nolte in a metaphysical spaghetti western directed by a guy who makes Terrence Malick's output look like Woody Allen. It will probably never be an in-flight movie or anything, but I'm extremely curious about what Jodorowsky creates with this. " -Colin Boyd

Now you listen out your good ear....ya hear? Like the man says in the trailer..."I ain't going to the coast".

Re: Original Dead Men...
Ain't nothin' secret about the Dead Men!
Altough there is a set of bylaws posted right outside this very saloon.
The only secret society, that I know of, would have to be that ISGG. Think their up in the northwest somewhere.
Perhaps you notice a trend....something to do with July.
Sure, Pale Rider, and The Long Riders, both high on the list. Got 'em both, even had The Long Riders qued up for viewin' at the last get together, but it didn't make it on.
Here's a few back at ya....
The Great Silence
The Professionals
Four of the Apocalypse
So you just keep on as you are....I'll probably never make it past the Mississippi either....
Here's the movies we had pulled from my collection that didn't get viewed....maybe next time...
The Big Gundown (Lee Van Cleef & Tomas Milan)
The Bounty Killer (another Tomas Milan classic)
Face to Face ( A Sergio Salima Italian western...Tomas Milan again)
Django Kill (I'm noticing a trend...Tomas Milan)
The Strangers Gundown (a Django offshoot)
Wyatt Earp (the 1st domestic western in this list)
Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (James Coburn & friends)
The Missouri Breaks (Jack Nicholson & Marlon Brando...one of Jenco's favorites....please)
Tepepa (Tomas Milan & Orson Wells, have had this for while, haven't watched it yet)
The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid (another Jesse James movie...the shootout is a bit Hollywood)
Uno Dopo L'Altro (One After Another)
Matalo (a bizarre Italian western)
Keoma (Franco Nero)
Navajo Joe (early Burt Reynolds)
The Long Riders (whole bunch o'brothers)
Duck You Sucker (classic Sergio Leone)
The Outlaw Josie Wales
The Professionals
maybe we need a week long get together....but I don't know...
-Aho!

Re: Original Dead Men...
Every once in a while, I almost get through a day without thinking about my friends, and who they are... it was nice to see all those boys who made the journey to the end of the line.
I'd like to say, "Thanks. For comin'".
Seems when ever we get together, I end up with some new stuff. A present. ...or two
Charlie Dickinson lettered this little sign for me.... told me not to tell no one.
Roddy "The Kid" Treece, graciously parted with this little gem for a mere sack of gold. Now I have an authentic Rawson & Evans to proudly display here in Machine.
A guy by the name a, Lee Hazelwood crafted this wonderful sign to add to the decor.
Angel Eyes gave me his treasured , lifesize, Clint Eastwood cardboard cutout! Imagine that, a grown man givin' that up!
Mr. Dickinson left me a few shots of Bushmills. I think it was in trade for the 1500 Dixie cups he used over the weekend!
And Sally cut me a nice thick steak...and i enjoyed it!
-Aho my friends!
Oh, and Joe Hardy left me with a nice bag of bacon.
