Tell me, was it neccessary to do all that brilliant cutting?
I have no time for this complexity, English. You know that.
I started this craft in the eighties, and before my eyes rot,
I wanna try some of that brilliant cutting, here in Machine.
...we've traveled along way just the same, and fast.
Don't play the sick man with me, Mr. English. I knew you
when you were just barely silverin'. I've watched your skill
level rise a little more everyday. Any normal man'd design
a bit less complex, but you...you just get a little more intricate.
Otherwise, you ain't changed any.
You're gonna need somebody more and more everyday to stay near you.
...like a friend. How does it feel doing something that elaborate, English?
It's almost like one of mine...only much more time consuming. You see,
seeing this stuff of yours, uh, I'm beginning to think big too.
This Gerald Whittaker Sign, is giving me ideas.

I'm sorry for me, English. I'm doing my best.
I'll never succeed in becoming like you. There are many things
I'll never understand. Complex designing is one of them. You see English,
there are many different techniques...and the only sign that can top this one,
is your next one.

Maybe Mr. Black can teach you a few more things...like keeping it simple...

Design time and cut sandblast mask, 20 minutes.

Cut glass, mask, blast, flow the glue, 30 minutes.

Ahh, Larry, would you be trying to get the Englishman to regress in his skill level. Nay, I think not. He is so skilled with them punties that it's scary...not to mention all the other skills that he has perfected over the years. Me, I got a Dremel tool that we could do some punties with. Maybe not polished like those of the Englishman, but it would be a start.

Thunderstorms here in Weber Country. Say, speaking of that group, I might take come pictures of the finished project they did for the Fire/Police department building. It looks real nice...like you'd expect from that bunch, course they needed help from Bill to get it right.

All this aside, I do like the beginnings of your Guns/Ammo sign. You are a skilled craftsman. I seen your work when you and that guy with the bonnet hid out in the back room at Noel's place. That room weren't much bigger than a two hole privy.

You stay safe. Keep your nose into the wind. Funny things happen in Machine.

Clean off remaining glue, hack'n'slap a mask, block in color, 30 minutes.

Patch holidays in gild, back with spray shellac, then back with gold spray paint, 30 minutes.

Installed into the frame and mounted up in Machine, 1 hour.

Well, there you go English! And maybe faster than you! Just a hair under 6 hours, start to finish! So, tell me Mr. English, ah, how do you play this game?

Now that is one fine looking chair back. You do good work for a Californian. Now, the Englishman, I think he won't be racing with you on these projects. A man needs to have a cup of tea and a few biscuits to build up his strength for quality gilding. I can't be sure what those beans and ribs are doing for you. Gas, maybe.

Anyway, nice job on that Guns and Ammo piece. I seen your work up close and I like it. You planning on coming back to Boise for some more learning? Maybe some quality sushi?

Well, it happened again, a bunch of scoundrels showed up here in Machine for some gildin' and some eatin' and to watch a few good movies. When all was said and done, we were able to roll 18 movies over the weekend. One after another...and we enjoyed it!

"Here's a movie you won't mistake for High School Musical: Chilean filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky has spent the past several days grabbing money from investors at Cannes to fund his upcoming King Shot, which according to Empire will be "a metaphysical spaghetti western." Mmmmm...metaphysical spaghetti...

There have been metaphysical westerns before, notably Jarmusch's Dead Man, but none of them have been co-produced by David Lynch or have starred Nick Nolte and Marilyn Manson. Yeah, that's legit; he's a star now in the dope show.

When you think about it, though, Manson (née Brian Warner) has been acting for over a decade. His entire public persona is a character to some degree. Nolte, when motivated, can still be a tremendous asset.

If you're unfamiliar with Jodorowsky, it's probably because he doesn't work that often. If you're under 30, he's only made three films in your lifetime, and King Shot will only be the director's seventh film in 40 years. The 80-year-old Jodorowsky will begin filming the $7 million western this October with a cast that also includes Udo Kier and Asia Argento, who don't exactly crank up the normal on this project, do they?

Having said all that, how can you not be interested in what the end result will be? You've got a shock rocker and Nolte in a metaphysical spaghetti western directed by a guy who makes Terrence Malick's output look like Woody Allen. It will probably never be an in-flight movie or anything, but I'm extremely curious about what Jodorowsky creates with this. " -Colin Boyd
