Wall Dog / Sign Painter needed in the Denver area

John Fluevog Shoes is opening a new store in the Larimer Square district in Denver — and our new retail space has a long brick wall on the right-hand side that stretches over 40' down the length of the store. Due to the history of the space and our company with a long history of hand-made product, we think this would be a perfect opportunity to do some hand lettering. We've done something similar in the past in the Calgary store (photos are attached). I've also attached a photo of the space we are leasing (currently under construction).

We are slated on open mid-July so really do need to get this project going. Please let me know if you available for a commission of this nature and if you are interested! We would provide the messages/copy we'd like to see and a general sense of aesthetic, but are eager to collaborate with experts in their field with their own creative input.

Look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks for posting this, Mike.
And thanks, Roderick, for passing my contact information on to her. I appreciate that.
I'm following up on this and we'll see what happens. Looks like a tight deadline but an interesting project!

You are correct, I did those a few years ago. They are a great group to work with. To bad it's state side, it's one of my favorite type of signs to do.

Thanks Danny for reminding us of who did the great work. I do remember the step by step that Rick posted of the project. Some very cool signs Rick , as always.
I had a long talk with Kristen and she sounds very nice. To bad they don't like to pay for travel. I was excited to hear that she had just scene the sign painter movie in BC. It's great they have an appreciation for the craft. Good luck getting the job Dan.

Thank you to everybody who contacted me — we're excited to move ahead with Dan on this project and we couldn't be more pleased. It's going to be a beautiful store (thanks in part to Dan), pop by after we open late July to see his work!

Kristin,
You will be in good hands with Dan. Please drop back in and post a few photos of the completed project, or at least give him permission to post them here.

Cheers,

Well, I finished up this job earlier this week. Thought I ought to post a couple of pictures.
At first we had talked about doing the style as if it were painted somewhere in the 40's - 50's to go along with some really fun wallpaper they're doing so I did a narrow, vertical version to fit on a narrow brick post.
A 1940's style version.

However, that changed rather quickly & we decided to go for a look around the turn of the 20th century so I did 2 more drawings. (Though I began each of these as a pencil thumbnail sketch, I used elements from Mike Jackson's Main Street collection, some Letterhead Fonts as well as some Atkinson influence in my computer generated drawings!)

In the end they chose the 3rd version for me to paint.

A pretty difficult surface to paint but great people to work with & in the end I think everyone was happy. Rick Janzen's step-by-step helped augment what I've done in the past to create a ghost sign effect. I may put together my own step by step some time.

Thanks, Roderick.
Yeah, I'm really disappointed I can't be there too - would have been a great year to be in Machine. But I'm looking forward to my week learning from Denis Brown. It's great to face the agony of such choices!
Please give my regards to everyone there, but don't look at any of 'em cross-ways & keep your trigger finger loose.
Heading off to the Summit now.
