Colortones Paint Formula Book

Post by Andrew Lawrence »

Anyone have a Colortones Paint Formula Book for sale or know of anyone that does? You got a phone number for me to call or someone to contact? Let me know.

I work in a big city with people demanding PMS XYZ123 all the time and any help I could get on trying to color match would be a really big deal for me. Help. I'll pay good money.

E-Bay has postings from 50.00 to $200.00 for an official PMS book.
the key search word would be "Pantone" color match system or matching book.

John, the old Colortones booklet was different than a PMS booklet. Colortones included paint mixing formulas to match PMS colors. We had one at the old shop, but I am sure it stayed in a drawer when we sold the shop 22 years ago!

Mike - yes - you are so correct.
I dug out my "Archives Storage File" a/k/a/: box of sign making junk
and found my books. One is the Pantone Color Formula Guide 747XR for 1989-1990
and one book of "government issue" Federal Standard Colors FEDStand 595a for 1984.
I am pretty sure I had a "Colortones" book but it is not in the "archives file" so either I never
had one, or, if I did, it was misplaced 20 years ago by an employee.
Since I had only used 1-Shot during that time, I only used the PMS book.

I did not know the two books are completely different animals entirely !!!
Thanks for the history !

the only history I found was an old thread on the Letterville Forum:

.

I FOUND IT !!!

Stumbling through some of my old unmarked boxes, I found the old ColorTones book.
I was pretty sure I had one, but couldn't find it - it is not in the best of condition,
but it is a start for anyone needing a vintage 1991 (1st Edition) book.
I will be listing it on E-Bay tomorrow if anyone is interested in seeing it.
search for "COLORTONES" book.
