Goldleaf 23
Hello guy's.
Attached a few photos of a glass panel which I have made for a clients side entrance door.
The circles are cut punties with the border in glue chip this will remain clear ,the interior scrolls within the chip are acid etched and the number 23 is deep blasted and gilded.
Across the centre acid etched gold panel is a blend from 23crt to 18crt goldleaf which was blended using wirewool, you can see it better when your next to the work.
The end punties are 12 crt gold.
Anyway thought I would show you this one before it's fitted.
Thanks
Dave

Re: Goldleaf 23
Good looking piece Dave. On the deep carved 23, did you clear it first with frog juice or 1 shot clear, and then water gild or matte ?....would you explain how it was done..............thanks

Indeed looks great!
Love the nice crisp lines: Exact round punties, crisp glue chip edges, the cool thouch to not silver because it is already smoking to see, the briliance you have achieved in the deep carved 23.
Agggh it makes me cry like a baby: "I wannaaaaaa do puntieeeeees!!!!"

Thanks lads! Vance the 23 was deep blasted well sort of, I used laminated glass so was only able to go in a little but it looks deep enough. Frog Juice was the clear coat - 4 coats and then water gild everything you see.
Wayne Fish and Chips sounds good! I am away in France on Thursday but back on Monday.

Dave,
Nicely done. I always admire your scroll designs.
Those punties look like little watch crystals. What was the diameter of that punty wheel? I'm guessing around 6".

Hello Pat. The puntie wheel for these puntie circles was 4'' and about 1''wide great little stone... I have some nice puntie wheels at different sizes.
I have one puntie wheel at 6'' wide that I would like to try to get to use at some stage. 6'' punties into half inch glass would be an interseting look especially angel gilded and silvered.

Re: Goldleaf 23
Yo, English-
It appears that there is a significant depth to the acid etched center panel. Was this panel etched face-up, liquid acid (no mica)?
I was giving this gem a good look over, and thought I'd take a stab at the sequence of execution...(correct me where I'm wrong).
Design & cut glass.
Brilliant cut punties.
Mask for acid work.
Etch texture in scrolls.
Etch center panel.
Mask for sandblasting.
Deep carve numerals.
Frost for glue chipping.
Glue chip backgound. (Did you use the asphaltum method?)
Seal numerals, gild and brightline.
(Here's where I start guessing)...
Paint black lettering, panel & numeral outline. (or is it screenprinted?)
Blended gild on center panel and back-up.
Blended shade on numerals.
Am I close? am I right? ....Austrian?
Pick any method ya like...you do some fine work, English! Best go have a spot of tea!

Re: Goldleaf 23
No seriously the print came out perfect! lol
Larry your step by step is dam close there mate.
Acid etched front side up in a bath of liquid acid 1-3 acid to water. 45 minutes nice and deep 76% acid strength.
then puntie cuts to match up with the scroll designed panel, glue chip and then mica acid the outside scrolls.
Mask out and blast deep the 23 ,Frog juice 3 times the 23 and clean up, then gild the 23 with 23crt gold (water gild). hand paint the glowline and wipe the loose gold from the edges, paint the black outline freehand and also the letters and lines all hand painted. Wait 4 days to dry solid. (can not scrap this stuff off) Gild the panel and blend the golds with wire wool. Hand paint over the gold background leaving a clear area to blend over a shadow of reds to vermillion and white, back up and fit .
Looks great above the door.

Re: Goldleaf 23
Hello John. Nice to see you here again.
A puntie is made using a stone wheel which is fixed to a bar running between two blocks of wood. The wheel rotates at around 300 rpm.
I place the glass over the wheel to achieve the desired cut to the glass in this case I shaped the wheel to a round shape which creates the round puntie which is the term given for this type of cut. Once it is cut I then polish back to clear glass using a high grade polishing compound and either a felt or cork wheel.
Thanks for your comments mate
