OLD FORUM POSTS

If you read along with the posts down the page from today, you will see how this new page had developed. It started with a couple of people jus wanting to know where to buy gold leaf and size, and has now grown to a fairly nice list.

I had a call yesterday from a lady wanting to buy angel gild supplies, and she had found an old page I made up on my site for Rick Glawson--long before he had a site of his own. Apparently the work "angel gilding" had migrated into the search engines and she found that old page. Since the note at the bottom had my site linked to it, she called me.

I spent most of the day working on the list, most added by doing Google searches on the Internet. Amazing what you can find! If Rick ever gave you the name of a supplier for anything he sold or even distantly related to the sign business, just drop me a line and I will try to add it to the chart.

The glue pot above comes from www.woodworkerssupply.com 's site. They sell for $99 there. Analine dies are also used by furniture restorers and can probably be found from many sources.

The tough items will be Dekor Back-up, Fine Gold (and Mirror) back-up, and Angel Gild kits.

Mike Jackson - Updated List and Slightly Better Look
I added a couple of items to the list and tried to organize it this morning. Check it out!

There had been a couple of requests for Rich Art poster paint over the years. Many had feared the company had gone under, but that's not the case. Carol Chapel gave us a link to Pacific Coast Sign Supply. Canadian SignCrafters Supply also sells it. When I called Estes the other day, they told me they had discontinued Estes Hol-Fast Oil, but I saw it still on Canadian Signcrafters Supply's site.

Mike Jackson - Gelatin Sheets and Mica Flakes Added
I just added sources for Gelatin Sheets (water gilding) and mica flakes (textured acid etching and other applications) to the chart.

Gelatin sheets are used in quite a few cooking recipes. You can buy 20 sheets for $3.95!

Mica flakes are used heavily in industrial applications, including the oil industry. There were dozens and dozens of importers and suppliers, but mostly in bulk form. I found a doll house suppy that sells it in seven colors in small bottles. There may be another source for 1 lb bags somewhere in all the google.com results. Mica is also used in ceramic glazes, so that might be a better direction to search for small bags if it.
