HC Martin's Modern Ideas, Book 4: Jan. 25, 2006

Post by Mike Jackson »

From Book 4, HC Martin's Ideas, 1937
The first principle in judging the worth of a given finished piece of work is—is it legible? After all, that's its primary purpose; that's all that really counts. The job may be beautiful, it may have some pleasing or contrariwise startling, attention-getting design idea, but unless it is easy to read—it is more less a failure.

Sounds like the primary focus of our work has not changed all that much. Evidently they had the same problems back then that we do now - the more things change, the more they stay the same.
