Whatever

Post by Doug Bernhardt »

It has been SO quiet here for a couple of weeks and if my business is any indication, me thinks everyone is getting real busy. Every once in a while with the girls in Cornwall (sign-it), we'll give each other a call and take the temperature. Nancy called several weeks ago and as usual they also were having a soft spring. I actually was fortunate this past winter as I had a bit of back-log to get through....but it seems no matter what time of the year my work flow will match theirs. Have found this sort of relationship with a non-competional sign business not that far away, very handy....sort of keeps me (us) honest with myself. If work slows down, I'm aware it's not personal (and think my clients all hate me) and when I'm busy as all-get-out, my ego won't go through the roof (cause everyone thinks I'm so great) and life and work stay at an even keel. So for anyone else in the same boat as us here....it's starting to get to the kooky busy stage.

Doug,

It's been pretty quiet here too. I don't know why but I always find that April is the slowest month of the year. I tell myself that it's just tax season - having to reckon up with Uncle Sam makes everybody feel too broke to get their broken stained glass fixed - much less order new windows. And then the sun comes out and things pick up again.

Of course, I don't know when taxes are due in the land of maple leaves, so maybe taxes aren't the problem - but at least blaming Uncle Sam keeps me from feeling that the slow down is personal. Isn't it strange that having no work to do is bad for the ego and being run off your feet can make you feel great?

Okay Doug, did you mean it's been quiet on the forum or at work?
This is the time of year when i'm always busiest. Once that snow melts and people realize the summer is not far away the calls start coming in. Summer is always quiet here - maybe because I am never here to take the calls. :) That works good for me. I put in some really long days in March, April and May and then kick back and enjoy the summer.

Okay Doug?.....Okay Kelly.....I meant the forum. Works going gang busters right now and am trying to get myself ready for the Scotland meet in a week. For me...am stopping into Liverpool for a couple of days in advance to see a few old pubs...yuppers, I am obsessed ;=) and then off to the "Tickle" at Stewie's.....and of course it's impossible to travel half way round the world without spending a few more daze in spots like London and Edinburgh so a quick meet turns into a 2 week adventure. Should be a blast!! There is a couple of old pubs I didn't see until a Monday last year (they all seem to close that day) and have been dying to get back there, soz I'ma gonna! The results of this and last summers, all to be picked through, will be in the next issue of Letterheads Magasine (and possibly the next also)of which I am proud to be able to contribute to in my own small way.

Doug, "Okay" is just somebody's lingo for being confused....guess it works to confuse others too,
Take lots of pictures of those pub signs, and get back here safe to tell us all about them. Have a great time in Scotland, it sounds like it is going to be a great meet.
We have a pretty good network here in Saskatchewan too, it's nice to have peers to bounce things off of. I find it really helpful as far as pricing is concerned as well.
