Just an addition....where in the heck did the clips from "My name is nobody" come from? Saw that in the 70's and haven't heard a word or seen anything from it since. I'm going to start woikin' on my quotes from cowboy flicks here.

Sticks in my craw....

I recognized that as soon as the picture popped up. I always have deep sigh whenever "things Glawson" come to mind or like this jump in your face. He would have been 60 years old a couple of weeks back. Can't someone local grab these up?

A Thanksgiving grace for you....

Post by Larry White »

This day the art of gold leaf was taught to mine hand,
and I will gild thee,
and create great beauty with thee,
and I will disdain the creation of the vinyl sign
this day, for they are fowl beyond compare,
and of little to no worth!

how come you're going by the name of Bill Carson now?

Post by Tony Segale »

one name is as good as another....

while the trolley was being lettered, I journeyed back and forth to the metal fabricators shop, to oversee production, double prime coat the panels
and assist at the site for installation of 8' x 100' mural panels....

ain't good fer some folks to sit to long...

Tony,

As you know, I'm not in "the trade" so I'm kind of wondering how the kind folks of Lodi will be viewing 800 square feet of mural with those trees in the way? Guess it don't matter much, s'long as you get paid in cash.

once I get paid, I always see the job thru....

Post by Tony Segale »

Dennis...City funds are paying for the mural, City funds are paying for tree removal, city depts don't remember approval of said removal, city depts required permit for panels on city property, city depts don't know who pays for permits, city depts waived permit fee, permits still required, city still debating about trees to remove, city depts not required to think....once I get paid, I always see the job thru

danny...ain't good to hand gild some jobs, at least not in it's entirety...sign gold on lettering only.... all outlines, stripe and graphics hand painted / gilded and engine turned...about 180' linear feet worth
entire vehicle automotive cleared at the body shop after completion
men in our profession have to be able to apply 22K sign gold and 23K Crocodile leaf with equal enthusiasm

Blake....that's right, and I enjoyed it!

Ya... you're the type that needs an audience!

Out there showin' off, paintin' that mural...

Hey! I thought you always work alone!

Underneath all this sandblast glass I have to do, I found time for this...

Image

Word has it the customer is bringin' some Dead Man decor to trade for part of the balance due.

Only way to handle it! Now, back to work Mr. Olafson...

NO! ....I do it alone....

Post by Larry White »

Being confronted with the task of laying a 4' x 8' vinyl stencil, that needs to be perfect,
all by myself, required a little inventiveness. Having a forklift to use didn't hurt....

Image

I aligned the stencil and adhered it down to the glass on one end. I mounted the other
end to one of my staight edges and rigged it up to a metal bar as a tensioner.

Image

Using the forklift, I raised it up to where I could peel off the backing.

Image

I lowered it down and troweled it down from the adhered end.

Image

When I got to the end, I removed it from the straight edge and layed it back.

Image

I then finished off the end, and peeled off the transfer tape.

Image

Think it'll come out perfect?... ...might...

Of course, layin' large vinyl and doin' some nice gold leaf...there's a he11 of a lot
of difference between those two activities.

Image

Next they're sandblasted. They took 25 minutes a piece to sandblast.
(The order was for 3 of these panels.)

Image

I have a sling and winch system for picking up the piece of glass and rolling it flat to apply the
sealer coating over the sandblast. ....cause... I always work alone.... After the sealer is dry
there is the tedious process of pealing the mask off. It's not too bad, but plenty boring. It's a
good time to call Pat and say hello.

Image

Here's one of the finished panels. They take about 6 hours to do. I got $1200 a piece for 'em. :D

I remember the coldest dam winters.....

Post by Larry White »

.....my whole body freezin’ up, fingers, couldn’t even move ‘em, funny,
I just think about Christmas. Well, that’s me...that’s me. Fireplace,
someone waitin’ for ya. Winters can be cold, Wilson, I remember lots of ‘em.
Ya, just the smell of someone familiar, the sound of somethin’ other than
your own dam shadow...and a warm fire...
