Source for more exotic variegated gold leaf
Most variegated gold leaf comes in the basic red, blue green and black. Is there a source for more exotic variations of the variegated leaf? Variations can be created with glazes but looking for other sources. Bob

Check with Sepp or Easy Leaf, they both have many sources and may be able to find what you are looking for among them. I have some old variegated that has much beter color than much of the newer high volume produced leaf. Some of the smaller producers may have better control.

These guys have some interesting patterns.
This one looks appealing. Smokey Blue and Copper on Silver

I believe there is no shame in failure. Rather, the shame lies in the loss of all the things that might have been, but for the fear of failure.

Thanks for the information. I agree that current variegated leaf has a very predictable pattern and can be quite monotonous, particularly on large areas. I have earlier work from the 1960's that shows a randomness in the pattern that I feel is more desirable and I will continue to search out some of the older leaf. Thanks again. Bob

Robert,
Try asking for Japanese Varigated Leaf. There are some really beautiful colors. I used to get it from Rick who got it from Sepp.
That's part one.
Part two: Instead of applying it as a large sheet, try tearing it into small pieces about the size of your thumbprint. Doing so will give you a more interesting pattern and hide the straight lines you'd get at the edges of larger sheets. Darla and I learned that from a signmaker doing some faux finishing back in Pennsylvania when we were traveling around.

Re: Source for more exotic variegated gold leaf
My supplier, Enoguya Sankichi, in Kanagawa, Japan has some interesting leaf on pages 3 and 4 of the leafing section:

There is an english speaker named Ueda. I guess they could ship leaf to the US pretty easily...?
