Simple R&E test piece.

My mother likes the glass pieces I make, but she had told me a few times that she did not like the rich colored, ornamental ones.
So I asked her what styles she did like. Gave her a lot of design books and Lord behold she picks a rather simple R&E design.
I digitized the design out of the cataloque and made some adjustments.
It was an eye opener for me to realize that also with glass sometimes less is more.
- Size: 46" x 18"
- Beveled edge
- Glue chip, hand cut (next time with a glue repelent or just mica etched)
- Silvered
- Hand painted

Where shall I hang it? There is no wallspace left anymore.

Erik,
Nice piece. Did you do it between Oktoberfest and Boise? Between the leap to one plane and another? Magical!
Somehow, I don't think it would have the same WOW! if done in mica. Mica's nice, but does not exude
the same brilliance and antiquity as glue chip, especially in larger areas of designs.
Maybe it's time for a larger shop with MORE wall space, or maybe begin a row on the ceiling, like the Sistine.

The size of the chipped details was just on the border, any smaller and it would have been crazy to keep on cutting.
Maybe next time a 'game' with acid etching would be interesting if it would be smaller.
It was done between my extensive Jugendstill panels, Oktoberfest, Boise and normal work.
Now that this is done I will continue my other real pieces I am working on: So far 100 hours designing, 50 hours per panel work, another 100 hours and the panels will be ready.


Allways too little space... makes me crazy!

...or maybe, make some just a bit narrower and install them as crown molding around you whole shop!

What a beautiful classy looking piece of glass work, restraint in design can often work well with glass, the surface treatments and gold or mirror do the work and the design just acts as the vehicle for this.

I'd employ your mum in your design department, she's obviously got a good eye. Whats R & E refer to?
