Mica and acid source

Post by Matthew Bryan »

Hello all,
I was wondering if you can point me in the correction direciton of purchaseing medium and large Mica stone along with some acid. If they do not sell the individual stones then I will sift the myself. I only need small amounts as this will be only used for testing. This is my first trial at this method.

Can you purchase acid already diluted to the required strength or do you have to do it all yourself? I can do it but would rather buy it already to go.

Thanks for any info.

Hi Matthew,
After Rick Glawson passed away, we created this page for hard to find sign supplies normally carried by Esoteric Sign Supply:
http://www.theletterheads.com/supplies/index.htm

I don't spend a lot of time trying to maintain it, but I suspect most of it is still current.

http://www.letterheadsignsupply.com/com ... mmerce.cgi should have some small quantities of mica in sifted sizes.

As far as the acid goes, I'd suggest looking around in your area for a chemical supply house. If you can go direct to their counter and buy it, you can save a ton of money on shipping and packaging of the hazardous materials. Otherwise, you can have it shipped to your doorstep.

But, we always caution people on this site that working with acid is VERY DANGEROUS and you should read the materials data safety sheet before using or buying it.

You can do searches on this site for acid and will probably come up with a lot of results. Larry White has several step by step threads showing jobs he did. Also check out the wonderful work by Dave Smith.

Again, be careful with this process.

Best regards,
