Please promise me that from now on you will protect your lungs and your bare arms better.
Eventhough you are handspraying here it still spray tiny molecules of heavy metals and they are or could be very toxic.

Almost

for plastics
1. Krylon Fusion light light coat(you can do with a dust coat)
2.Basecoat(glossy black or white works, needs to be 2k urethane automotive grade paint, and cured for 24+ hours)
3. rinse, degrease, rinse. Angel Gilding wetting agent(its being my life saver) rinse
4. sensitizer, allow 30+ seconds, rinse
5. 2 part angel gilding spray on silver, rinse and dry with a powerful hair dryer.
6. wait for 1 hour and clear coat it with a tinted clear coat(the clear has to be automotive grade 2k urethane and its better if you use a color die made for it, instead of trying to mix bits of colors in the clear to obtain the right shade of purple, but hey I have to work with what I have right?) apply 2 light coats of the tinted clear and allow it to flash for 10 minutes, then apply 1 to 2 coats of untinted clear(no tint, same 2k urethane automotove grade paint), this should give you enough durability for out doors..

its a shame I was not able to test Alsa´s own Silvering chemicals(they now are only 2 parts quemicals instead of the 3 of the angel gilding). but I have learn from them also. I got the right tone of purple that works(my previous work were not that good, but once I got my hands on their tinted clear, I had a master mixer teaching me how to mix my own using 2 colors, Blue and deep purple, and oh my it works so good..

below its a chart of the purple shades, the one from Alsa its the one at the top left corner and the one that I was previously working with its on the middle and was just not working for me(years ago I heard to tint the clear purple but never quite knew the corect shade)

I want to start a small business, my cousing will be racing his motor bike in a few days and I´ll be "chroming" lots of his bike´s parts. as soon as people see this they are going to love it, here in Nicaragua we love the Bling Bling, its a culture thing, I´m not much into it because I spent my teen and early 20´s in the U.S.A. but here.. this is going to be huge

How did you like the dual chamber hand sprayer?

compared to my hand crafted Silvering Spray gun?


I´m loving it, Why? it saves alot alot of chemicals, so I spend less, it takes so many variables out of the equation purity of the compressed air, oil/humidity on the air, chemicals reacting with the metal, correct air pressure, now I can focus on just mixing the chemicals, that´s all

If it was not for you posting that patent #, None of us would have known about that dual chamber spray bottle.

if it was not because I am always broke(I am still wearing the same shoes for the last 3 years) I could have finished this small project of mine along time ago.. but hey now we can all buy this bottles from Angel Gilding..

True, Ive been thinking about using the hand triggers on this piece but do the piece in 4 segments, silvering one segment at a time. its gonna take more time but it has to be done, I have all the time I need

since I dont have cany paint dies, I use a few drops of color in the clear to give it a colored chrome look, so far this are the only colors I can produce, I have tried others but they just dont work at all..

The blue chrome looks awesome in your photos. I would think that reds and yellows would be good, since they are both somewhat transparent. and yellow might make a dazzling gold - gold shock absorbers on a black bike, yum.
Will artist oil colors mix into your 2part automotive? They can be a more pure pigment (or dye) than most paints.

believe me when I say I have tried the yellow and red before, I want that gold tone, but somehow its not working, the color is not transparent enough..

its from sherwin W is an automotive grade 2k clear coat and the colors I use to get the tint are also from sherwin W. I will be experimenting with food coloring dyes to see if they work..

I am happy for you it is going well, but i would really want to see the finished bumper.
My wish is to see the edges of the two phases in silvering.

well I bit off more than I could chew with that large piece(2+ meters) I could not get the semented parts to have the same tone, seems like some were darker than others and you could clearly see the lines, what I did is use the Innate Chrome Paint I still had(I am also playing with the best chrome paint) to blur the lines, from now on I have two options for larger parts, to use chrome paint(is really good if you prep the piece like a perfect mirror) or to purchase the larger Pump system AngelGilding has now to offer(seems they took off their hand trigger sprayers) I wish they had this offer back when I was purchasing my parts

Ok I have a few update pics, they are not good at all, but you live and you learn right?

ok this was the big issue going on with this large piece, I was doing a piece at a time and since I could not silver ontop of another silver layer so I had to clear the piece before.

you will see how the lines looked, in this pic I was using untinted clear that´s why it looks yellow instead of chrome, the tinted clear goes after.


now this is how the whole piece looks after the tinted clear and chrome paint applied to the segment joints. I don't know if the cure is worse than the disease but I did it anyways, the customer is ok with it, I told him that once I get my hand on a larger equipment I am going to do it again for free..

the line you see is a pole not a white line, you can see how the violet tinted clear can turn this thing into a chrome look a like

aside from the obvious parts where the Innate chrome paint went to, I used it to fix minor issues on the large piece.

Maybe if you would arange a helping hand next time who keeps the whole bumper wet with water continuesly you have more time to go from the beginning to the end of the bumper and have a complete good finish.
It takes some time, your underarms will heart, but i know for sure it could be done in this way.

By the way, do you have some scum residue when silvering/chroming?
Scum is the yellowish powdery substance you get on the silver after silvering glass (the pooring method)?
This scum can be removed with a wet chamois....
I was wandering if this method leaves this scum also.

no scum residue at all, even if you overspray it abit much. just like my first video, I think I did 4 or 5 passes, where now I do only 3 and is good enough.
