Just finished up the last of four glass signs for one client. Got them all photographed and ready to ship.

Very nice.. very nice indeed. Tell me how do you manage to get such nice photo's and what is the backdrop material?

Hi Tyler,
Glad you like the signs. Some times a glass sign or mirror is very easy to photograph in it's natural setting within my studio. But most times I have to set up back drops and lights to get a quality photograph. I am going to start another thread to deal with this subject so take a look at that for more information.

The third piece... the boarders are they Antique Angel Gilded or some other effect?

The border is two toned antique water gilding with 23.5kt gold.I use dirty brown water size with soap in it to create bubbles in the size. Thanks Ron. The last one is a copy of one I did awhile back.

I like the effect.

So I know your not talking about mud puddle or ditch water... so what is this dirty water concoction you speak of?

I like to make a water size that looks dirty brown by using watercolor pigments and dish soap. The dish soap traditionally is used when water gilding over paint or clear varnish when doing two tone gilding. I do my antique gilding with the glass laying down flat. I wash the size on and give it a slap with the size brush to make soap bubbles. Then I lay my gold on. The bubbles help keep the gold from laying down so when it dries those areas become antique spots.

Was wondering what it looked like from the front... looking forward to seeing the completed piece.

The outside spark line scrolling was that sandblast as it looks like it had some depth from the back side. Also when you remove the paint and silver what products are you using?

I tried some gel stripper I had on hand and the backing pant just laugh at it... maybe it's just went bad but if I'm going to buy something I'd rather know it'll work.

Yes the outside scrolling was depth carved then sealed with frog juice to bring back the clear. Then it was water gilded with 12K gold and backed with silver Oneshot.
I am told almost any paint stripper will work but I use a aerospace epoxy paint stripper that takes the backing paint off in a few minutes.
The silver is removed with Silver strip. I only know it as cat piss.

I hope I haven't already post these posts but here go's. This is the first LED back lite etched bar mirror I've done. The challenge was to line up all the layiers so the stand off wholes matched.

Rod, as always, beautiful work So, you start each of these magnificent pieces with an existing beveled mirror and strip/blast of the areas where you place your gold and art work?

Also, going back up the thread I noticed something 'Strange', to my eye anyway, on the Vardolyak Law sign (Fighting Insurance Companies..). Why the lower case 'i'?

Ron I don't believe it is a lower case i. To me looks like it's a bits of his dirty water soap bubble sizing magic that is shading a capital I.
