France from the past
[EDIT]
Hi,
I'm new here!
I'm not sure everybody will consider these following pictures as "masterpieces", so I don't want to make troubles in the "Masterpiece Signs of the World" topic...
I will post here sign painting (old) pictures I take in Paris, and some France related links.
First one:
Here is a great "article" showing streets of Paris in 1900 and 2013.
By sliding the "red switch" you'll see amazing streets loaded of signs.
It's really beautiful.
Enjoy.

These are great Francois!
It is a shame that the original wallpaintings are long gone now.
The style and artwork of paris around 1900 is so beautifull.
I made it my goal to reproduce it in any way i can.
Have you seen my Parisian boulangerie glass reproductions?
Boulangerie glass

Hi Francois,
Thank you for posting your photos here. I think it is awesome that you have undertaken this process of documenting this history of buildings and signs.
Wow, how times have changed things. I must say that I find the old advertising ways have much more individual eye catching appeal. I can spend hours looking at every little sign and architectural detail in photos like these. And I really like the way that the slider bar lets you compare the way it is, to the way it was.
I certainly will like to see any additional photo history you do.

Hi Vance,
I see arrows in buttons on the left and right of the picture to advance the photos. Try reducing the window on your screen, maybe the arrows will appear.

Vance,
I just looked at your website again and you make some beautifull work!
Lots of goldleaf giving the handcrafted signs just that extra touch.

Merci Francois...
Beautiful comparison shots. I have to say that I prefer mostly the 1914 versions...

A few pictures I took in Paris:
These ones are actually "fake vintage signs" on a restaurant called "Le Progres" in Montmarte (Paris).

Re: France from the past
This is a vintage wall painting on a building in Rue des Martyres x Rue Hippolyte Lebas (Paris 9th).
When they decided to clean (new paint) the building wall, they discovered those 2 old ads hidden behind some green metal construction on the wall.
There, you can see a very famous ad about the paint brand called "Ripolin"
And the other one is "Benedictine", an herbal liqueur beverage brand.
Location: http://tinyurl.com/lkmlo4c
Here is the original Ripolin advertising (didn't find the Benedictine one) :
Since then (3 years ago may be) they've protected it...

Re: France from the past
A last one for today:
I will take some focus pictures of this one.
This is one of the beautiful signs you can find in Paris and it's a pity (my opinion) :
To have this oldschool goldleaf work wasted by all these ugly vinyle signs...
This is really sad.
Location (you can see it via streetview): http://tinyurl.com/ldqnwy8

Nice signs spotted on this one:
Picture (c) Charles Marville.
(“Charles Marville: Photographer of Paris,” now on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.)
See it larger over here:
