I have six complete booklets of Hastings Gold Leaf Pat Feb 3 1885. I have posted them on a page on my web site for your review. Is any body interested in this? Is $25 a book fair?

Hi Scott,
Back on Feb. 7, you said you had the gold powder tested and found it to be 90% pure gold. Or did I read that wrong? We were suggesting that the powder was actually Bronzing Powder, but you said the little packets were gold. Each packet was just over 1 troy ounce each valued at $370 per oz. Did you find out differently? I guess I am curious now because it would be a . of a value to get 1 oz of almost pure gold powder for $25.
The book of gold you show on your site is definitely gold leaf, but I still not convinced on the powder.

The books look like they are from the early 50's so they should be good although if not in their wrappers as shown, some tarnish to the silver and copper compounds should be expected. The price is right. You can still buy gold in powder form in .3, 1.05 and 2.05 gram increments (page 3 of teh NEI catalogue). Powder is used like skewings for filling crevices in architectural and frame gilding. .3 grams sells for $15 for 23K and 1.05 grams sells for $50. There is often confusion between grams and ounces with metal leaf and powders. The amount shown looks like these sizes. The discoloration is an issue for packet powder value.
