I use those styrofoam packing "boxes" to hold all kinds of small items that accumulate on work tables. They are usually shaped to conform to whatever they came with, with small compartments that can hold pencils, squeezies, tape etc. The material itself readily accepts x-acto knives, tacks and other sharp tools. Just stab them in the edge instead of in your hand.
