I just wanted to take a moment to thank John & Kathi Studden for hosting a wonderful and Brilliant Memorial Meet this weekend last.

The Spirit of Rick Glawson is powerful and alive within the world of gilding. Thank you Rick for changing my life in the most illuminating way, Friendship.

Kristi and I had an excellent time visiting with all of the fine Letterheads that attended from around the world.

Saturday we were honored by a visit from Lola Grey, having Lola there made it really feel like we were at home again in Wilmington, with her watching over all of the gang once more.

The projects were great, David & Robin McDonald brought a wonderful Glass piece accompanied by a Dimensional frame, which incorporated prints of Rick Glawson, and demonstrated Sophisticated Finishes line of fauxing chemicals on the frames, the group really enjoyed all of their hard work, Thank you David and Robin, they are really on the cutting edge of our trade, and truly Keepers of our Craft.

Noel Weber, David & Susie Butler also created one of a kind designs in memory of our Friend, in which folks worked late into the evening on with excitement.

Mike Jackson sent out a great Sign in board, and Sarah King also came to demo Angel Gilding with the help of Danny Baronian.

I'd also Like to thank my close friends Robin & Melinda Sharrard, Tony & Danine Segale, & Jim Moeser for the great company at dinner over the weekend. Dinner time with my friends has always been one of my favorite parts of the meets.

I know John couldn't invite everyone Rick new, Rick touched so many lives and the list is so long, but I also know that John did a better job than most as host of this memorial than anyone else could have.

Thank you John, Kathi & the Girls
Ron & Kristi

It was a thrill to see everyone again and to once again feel the energy in the air. It is a recharge of my internal batteries and I thank John and Kathi so much for being great hosts. The projects were wonderful ..... the company, Heavenly. Ric was there in every brush, in every leaf laid, in every guild poured, in Lola's eyes. It warmed the heart to feel that what was created now has a life of its own. Thank You John .... and all the guys (and girls) who are the embodiment of the spirit.

Glad everyone had a great time. The photo looks strangely like Rick's shop, even to the location of the bathroom. We have promised Lola we will be out later in the year when things are quiet.

Thanks again to John & Kathi for hosting this memorable meet. I walked away with more than a few gems of information and new treasures. And hopefully others got some tidbits from me. The projects were great, the talent was inspiring, and the free flow of information was typical. Now I really have some things to do! I took Monday off, but by Tuesday I was back working on my projects to get them finished up. You probably figured that!

I was glad I could share the Rick Glawson tribute sign I had crafted with everyone. Last March, I, like everyone else had the wind taken out of their sails. But in that time of grief, I realized that although there was loss on the grandest scale, I wasn't to loose my passion for this artform. What flowed out was the sign I made for my dear friend.

I took photos of most of the steps in the creation of this piece. I put them into a booklet on how this piece was created. In the spirit of Rick, I freely share this information with you and hope you get as much personal satisfaction and joy in doing this art as I have over the years.

Thanks everyone. -LW

You cannot be commended enough for sharing the information the way you have, Larry.

During the gathering, as I was working with my back to Larry's fine tribute piece, I turned and noticed a step by step book lying on the counter in front of it. I immmediately put down my brush and went to Larry's work area and told him I want to put an order in for a copy of that step by step book. Larry takes me outside to his truck and pulls out a box with I'm guessing 25 - 30 CD's containing all the pages of the book.
Now, first he creates this beautiful glass piece, puts togehter a how-to book and then graciuosly downloads numerous CD's with a case and printed label for free hand outs, and now you can download this from his website. That information is worth thousands of dollars in paid instruction.

Surely, we were all touched by Rick Glawson's never ending support and wealth of information, but Larry White easily be considered the "Assistant to the Boss".

A sincerest thank you is miniscule to what you did, Larry.
A toast to you...
Tony
Danny Baronian
I'll second that Tony. Thanks Larry for sharing that with us, that was a real treat.

Thanks again to John and Kathi. Not only was it a great meet, it was also a big battery charger for most of us there. I was charged up and ready to attack new work and new projects with renewed energy.

It sounds like everyone had a great time, and how special to have Lola present. John sent me an invitation but I was not able to make it. Now, as usual, I kick myself for not making a bigger effort to be there.

Mike mentioned seeing a picture....where can we see it too?

It must have been an electric place with all that talent gathered in one place. And I'm sure Rick was there...you just couldn't see him.

Danny Baronian
Raymond, this may be semantics, but here goes.

Lola was at the shop Saturday. I went up to her, gave her a hug and asked how she was doing as she was looking sad. After talking with her, she remarked that she'd like to have Rick there. Asking what she saw in the crowd of people she didn't reply. What I saw was a group of people that had gathered together solely because of what Rick, and Lola had started with the first Conclave.

The level of talent and activity was amazing. The time and the people there were a tribute to Rick, the work being done was a continuation of what started at the first Conclave years ago.

On Sunday cups were passed around, and David Butler offered a toast to Rick . Tony Segale provided home made wine for the toast. Home made and wine don't usually go together, but the wine was very good, better than some store bought varieties. It was a very special time.

So no, you couldn't see Rick physically, but man could you see his work being carried to the next level. Rick would have been proud.

Danny

Tony Segale
Hey, thanks for the compliment, Danny.
It's funny, for some reason, before a suitcase or any sign kit was loaded in my truck Thursday, my inner being told me to go grab a case of wine, and put it in first. So when Susie asked how much I had and could we use it for a toast, I thought, whoa, there must have been some kind a message transported through the cosmos here.
I know one thing for sure, I could feel the spirit of the Boss, Daddy Fine Gold, there last weekend, and I could see him in each one of us that was present.
Now, when I go down into my cellar which is full of bottle or carboys, I seem to look at that juice in a new different way.
Salute,
Tony

D. Bernhardt - just to add
....the toast to the "Boss" was followed by a moment of silence..... Dave Butler's "speech" or better "thoughts of reverence" was moving and again I was doing my best to hold back more than a few tears. The spirit was very high and of course Lola's attendance only intensified that sense of longing that I'm sure many,if not all felt. As to the "HOOT"....it was one. Met a few new folks and for me most notably was the "wanker" Dave Smith brought along..... Haydn! Acommplished in acid etching and an English caftsmen of note. He passed along to me his sample piece and I admit I have rarely met anyone with as much natural "letterhead-ism"! He loved the whole adventure as this was his first trip to the USA. He was good company and of course I could fill all these pages with reminicences of he and Dave and all the usual terrific company. Am very much looking forward to another!

Rick Sacks sent a couple of photos earlier. I can't post the group shot someone sent (I believe it is planned for AMAL), so someone else might have a photo they can post.

Danny mentioned it was pretty "close quarters" and it appears to be that way in this photo.

Thanks Mike

Ditto, to what Ron said! It was a wonderful weekend and an Honor to be included in such a wonderful tribute to a friend and mentor, Rick Glawson. There are so many people to thank for all the sharing that went on this weekend, and a special thanks to Frank & Sue Massen and Ron & Kristi Percell for some very enjoyible dinning experiances. John & Kathi did a Great job of making sure that everyone had a pleasurible experiance...Thank You! Robin Sharrard

Hi Ron,
I wasn't sure if John wanted a post on the meeting, so I didn't make it, but it probably needed to be done. I saw a photo of the group...an impressive grouping of graying old codgers! I couldn't help noticing the green grass in the shot. It is -17° here this morning. Yikes.

I kept in touch with the meeting by calling Danny Baronian off and on during the meeting. I was prodding on tips for Angel Gilding, knowing Dave Smith was going to be there. Sounded like they got Sarah King's gold kits working flawlessly.

From all accounts, it sounded like a great small meeting.

Was it a private, "invitation only" meet? (I'd love to have known about it beforehand.) BTW, I was working on a Rick tribute piece earlier today.

Will there be another one someday? How does one get invited?
Mike Jackson
Hi Billy,
There was talk of a memorial meeting after Rick's passing last year. Not many in California have a shop large enough to really hold one, but John Studden stepped up and volunteered. Knowing he has a very small shop, he invited people who had attended a lot of the previous Conclaves. Looking at the group photo someone sent me, I can attest to seeing every one there over the years. So, yes it was by invitation only. I don't know if anyone plans on another similar one next year. Maybe someone else has more details.

I've spoken with several people who were able to attend and it sounded like a high-energy meeting. John mentioned most of the poeple were "self-starters" and they just grabbed a panel to work on--without a lot of instruction. One or two said it reminded them of some of the early Conclaves with everyone working on something and not a lot of people just sitting around.

I regret not paying the extra money and getting a flight...

We would like to thank everyone for attending the Reunion, I know it meant a lot to Lola to see evryone again. Thanks also to Dave McDonald & Noel Weber for such wonderful projects and endless hours of preparation.
thanks also to Sarah for the Angel Gilding demo, & Dave Smith for his input.Chuck at letterhead Fonts also deserves a hand for his giveaway CD of the Conclave font. David Butler did an outstanding job with the T-shirt art (as always). Thanks to Kelly Cassidy for saving the day by aquiring some replacement glass for Dave McDonald's project, and Pat Mackle & crew for a spontanious coffee cup blasting session.........

Hope we did not forget anyone...John & Kathi
