There was some talk about the George C. Brooke color plates earlier. Rick shared scans of those plates with a few of us, so I have created a new page in Rick's section showing those images. At the time of this writing, I only have the main page with the thumbnails, but I will have a larger page with each piece very soon. The photos are made, I just need to make the individual pages and link them to the thumbnails.

In note that accompanied the plates, Rick said, "Each plate in the Brooke album is 7" x 4 3/4" with the inside front cover signed George C. Brooke and dated Kansas City November 10, 1870."

The "Brooks Plates" album is probably the most incredible portfolio of work I have ever seen. I had the pleasure to veiw it one day at rick and lola's. It was astounding how small and intrecate the work was and very creative. Does anyone know where it is now? Thanks again for the posting.
We are all constantly reminded of how much Rick and Lola shared with us.

Mike Jackson - Plate fron The American Sign Writer

Robare sent me a scan of a photocopy from The American Sign Writer, 1877, co-written by George C. Brooke and Collins. The glass plates Rick had were done in 1870. (The original book was a sepia tone. The photocopy was in black and white, so I did a duotone on that image to get it as close as I could)

I have never seen the entire book, but it appears the small images in this photo are the individual pages.

As a follow up, the glass album is still at Esoteric(2) and from what I understand, The American Sign Museum is going to buy them for the permanent exhibit. That's great news for all of us.

Isie Posner had some small pieces that almost rivaled those Brook plates done by an L.A. guy named Val Cruz. Anyone seen or remember them?
