The Angel Gild Story fron Signs of the TimesLast night, I created three pages for theletterheads.com, in the Glawson section, from a July 1988 interview by Tod Swormstedt at Signs of the Times with Rick Glawson. The article was about Rick's newly "redeveloped" Angel Gild process. It is fairly lengthy article, but I think it would be well worth your time to read it, especially if you were a friend of Rick's. By the later years, we all just about assumed Rick must have had some sort of prior chemistry background, but this article reveals he really had to start at the beginning and learn the necessary information to make the process work.
This is a valuable article, especially since Rick actually describes many of the steps it took to put the pieces together...and it is in his own words.
When I posted this information last night about midnight, I had included three pages of scanned photos which were HUGE by Internet standards and a bit fuzzy. I asked for a volunteer to help retype the information and two people jumped on board. Thanks to Ron Berlier for offering, and again to Kimberly Zanetti for staying up a few extra hours actually tying it! And, of course, thanks to Tod Swormstedt, The American Sign Museum, and Signs of the Times for their help and approval to post the article! I am sure there are many who have never seen the old article, and a lot more who haven't read it in 12 years.
Enjoy!

Supplemental information from E C Matthews about Angel Gilding
Rick mentions an EC Matthews book that gave him some important information about the "Angel Gilding" process. I created a new page with those couple of pages from the book and pasted in the typed document (with the aid of Kimberly Zanetti). The information appeared only in the first edition 1920 book, but then disappeared in later editions.
The link below will take you directly to the new page, but you can also get to it by clicking on the link in the 1988 Signs of the Times interview article.
