What a blow to signmakers, Rick was a friendly fountain of knowledge.
In 1988 my wife and I moved from Austin to South Bay area for her graduate studies and I went about trying to get some sign work. It didn't take long to wind up at Fine Gold. Rick knew I was hungry and gave me some leads, some signshop owners names and a couple small jobs of course didn't want anything in return.
One thing lead to another and I got a good job at a scenery & props company, Rick made me look good so many times I can't count.
Went to a couple of the conclave events and was able to see and meet all the great talents and be inspired more.
Rick will be missed.
Regards and sympathy to Lola,
John Grenier
