Drying rack for mirroring

Post by Roderick Treece »

I have to mirror 40 pieces of 8" x 14" single strength glass all the way to the edge. I made a angled sloted wooden rack to hold them after they dry but I'm concerned that the mirroring might get damage on the edge.
Any other ideas would be helpful.I used the wooden racks at conclaves but not for edge to edge mirroring.
I could just lay them out on a table but that would take up alot of room . I will need a 1 table just for when I get ready to antique the mirroring.

Thanks Roderick

Roderick,

I Angel Gild mirror 9" by 14" sheets of 1/16" glass edge to edge for the stained glass guys all the time. My husband made me a rack to store them. It is basically an open wooden box standing on end. He used the table saw to cut slots in the 3/4" plywood sides about 1/4" wide and about two inches apart. He attached wood triangles to the corners on the back to keep the box square.

I can slide in the dried mirror sheets - face down - as I make them and they stay out of the way and dust free (more or less) until its time for the back up paint. Because the slots ore wider than the glass nothing touches the back of the mirror. Works well and holds twelve sheets at once.

I have a photo but I haven't figured out how to attach it to this message.
