Flags...

Post by Doug Fielder »

Hello,

I was asked recently about making a flag for a customer and it will be outside mounted on a pole I want to do it in gold on black.
Anyone have any suggestions about how to go about this?
Nylon or Canvas? Other?
Suppliers of materials?

I am thinking I will buy the basic flag in black and do the rest in LeFranc size and 23k leaf. How would I protect the leaf, but keep it flexible?
ANy other ideas will be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you,
Doug.

The first thing that comes to mind is US Banner. They have a nice black enamel receptive banner material & offer many sizes. I'd bet you could specify to have the flag sewn just like a standard flag with extra reinforcement along the back edge.

Respectfully speaking, the first thing that comes to my mind would be to send the customer and that project to a flag company, then I'd get back to my sign work.

I prefer to stay well within my normal sign "envelope" of projects. Besides the learning curve you are now asking about, I'd say this project is a coiled rattlesnake ready to bite you on the butt! :) Too many things can go wrong. When I first read it, I figured you were going to have some gold metallic colored lettering sewn on to the background. Gold leaf flapping in the breeze sounds risky to me.

Good luck if you proceed.

Ah! Very good advice!
I understand about the x blowing in the wind, especially here in VT where it is quite windy most of the year.

Thanks.
Doug.
