Nikon D70 camera update

Mike,

I agree with Sara, your pix are top notch.

Sara gave me some good advice with the purchase of my D70. Buy it from a dealer you know and get an extended warranty.

That's good for me because I still have a half dozen Leica's, two Blads, along with a dozen other camera's. Ya see, I just keep my stuff. Another one of my faults. Can't stand the thought of selling my Deardoff.

Point taken...however, many of us use cameras and need cameras within our craft (unlike the dialog from an obscure western movie), so I don't think the topic is that far off the topic. Besides the scans, all photos used on this site were taken with some sort of digital camera. They are now becoming as much of a necessary tool as a pounce wheel. This thread was intended on helping anyone comtemplating buying a new one. When you open next month's SignCraft magazine, you will see an article by myself on this very topic. In my personal learning experience, I always know I could learn how to use my camera and lense by taking a photo of a can of One-Shot or another more interesting subject. Anyone seeing the tough photos can understand it will take a nice photo of an easy, non-moving sign off a tripod.

So, on balance, I can live with a few slightly off topic posts here if they have some relative value. If you read the very first entry on this topic, it was originated by Doug Berhanrdt's earlier question.

This is a photo of an osprey I had a chance to photograph late yesterday. Tonight I opened it in Photoshop and did a little manipulation to the image. It wouldn't take much for me to believe this image will end up on a sign someday. Again, I normally learn a program and equipment by working with elements that are fun to me. It gives me a chance to experiment, learn, and grow without having to wait until I am under the pressure of a demanding job. When that happens, I know I will be more prepared and will handle it much more efficiently.
