Hi guys. I can't find sheet gelatin down here anymore. Could someone give me a recipe using powder?

Gelatin sheets are still sold all over the country, mostly used by the cooking industry. Look for a few links on the Hard to Find Sign Supplies page, or do a google search. You'll find dozens of sources.

I don't think the powdered gelatin will be as optically clear as you would want.

Thanks guys. I was just looking for an alternative, since I can't seem to find it at any grocery store, now that I need it! (Go figure)

+ I remember Noel saying he used powder gelatin.

Guess I'll keep shipping it!

Hi Felix,
It is "not recommended", but there is a section in my "Gold Leaf Techniques" that says to use "enough granular gelatin to cover a dime with one even layer or a scant 1/8 tsp" per pint of water.
Bring the water to a boil, add the gelatin, remove from heat and stir to dissolve. It also says you should strain it as some of the granules will not dissolve.
You should however, be able to get gelatin capsules from the local pharmacy. You use two 00 capsules per pint of water. (I got 000 and used 1 per pint and it seemed to work OK - if anything perhaps a bit aggressive - it was hard to remove excess leaf) I understand that the capsules are purer than the cooking gelatin.

...And Rick G. always said that the sheet gel was purer than the caps. (so who knows?)

...I'm still using (w. no problems) the sheets that I bought from him 15 years ago.

Sorry, clarification needed, I meant the granules when I reffered to the cooking gelatin. I always think of the sheets as "gold leafing gelatin." I never knew such a thing existed until I started working with gold.
I too, have heard the sheet form is the purest/clearest.
