Smoothie or whatever

Does anyone here know exactly what this stuff (Smoothie) is/contains? I know it is used to "marry" paints that crawl when applied to certain surfaces, but what is actually going on when this happens? The one thing I can say is "it works" and I'm thinking that it isn't silicone based. When I clean up after use and DON'T toss all the thinners etc, there is no apparent reaction to/with a fresh project....so I'm pretty sure there isn't any residule contamination. This has puzzled me for years, and have often wondered if I should let the stuff into my shop at all!

Hi Doug,
I always thought Smoothie was just a brand name for what we used to call Fish Eye Eliminator. You might look on their web site and look for their material data safety sheet to get specifics, but I have a feeling it is pure silicone.

Hi Doug,

Smoothie consists mostly of silicon added to mineral spirits. If you want to keep silicons out of the shop, no smoothie. Same with WD 40, it's main ingredient is also silicon.

Use HOK (House of Colors) KE 170, it contains no silicon.

Looked on the Mason site data sheets, no listings other than mineral spirits.

Silicone is what I was worrying about. And thanx....will do a msds on it, However, it doesn't act like the old fisheye eliminator I used in the past. Thats why the post....more to come
