Does anyone collect all the SignCraft collector cards?
Hi all,
My new Action Pack came in from SignCraft yesterday. Those are the little 4x6 direct mail sheets with specials and products. For quite a few years, SignCraft has featured two sign artists each time, so the collection is starting to be a fairly nice one. Does anyone else collect them?

Yep
Yep...I've got all of them, I think. I keep them in an envelope.
I'm confident that one of these days I will take them to the Antique Roadshow and get enough for them to retire in my old age.
Just Mike Jackson's alone should set me up for a few years.

My answer is “yesâ€. This is who/what I have to date; thought I had them all but apparently not. I’ll let it up to others to fill in the blanks.

Bob,
Thanks for taking the time to list them in their numbered order. That will help me, too. If you have Roger Cox, you should have #75 since they came in the same package the other day. Mine are all ordered alphabetically, so it would be harder to find right now.

How do you get even one? They sound indubatably cool but I have never seen one. On that score what do people do that are trying to fill in their SignCraft collection in general? I've bought all the possible back issues and I'm still shy a dozen that were sold out in the back issue section. Maybe I missed the cards because I bought so many issues afterward? I've heard that n Mike has a double of every one but other than that who can help fill in the gaps?
I have all of them but #45. Why I kept them, I don't know. Easy to throw in a drawer. Never had the high hopes like Raymond of them financing my retirement!!
So where are the Noel Weber, Mark Oatis, Rick Glawson, David Butler and Bill Hueg cards?
Seems like they might merit inclusion. And that's just off the top of my head.
Stirrin' up trouble . . .

Jay,
There are probably a few other names that come to mind for me, too.
Without speaking directly for SC, I would suggest they are featuring people who have consistently sent articles and photos to them to publish in the magazine. Many of the people you mentioned have aligned themselves with Sign Business magazine and have consistently sent their articles and photos to them (first). I am sure there are people in the list above that have had articles in both magazines, along with ST and even Sign Builder. I'd imagine SC has a two or three backlog of people they can still add to their cards that are consistent suppliers of photos and articles.
Well, this is just my observation. Conversely, if Sign Business was the company putting out the cards, I'd be surprised if my name would be on the list.

Looking for trouble?
Not that 58th round draft choices should ever think they were going to get into the hall, but at least now I know I'm doomed. I'll still be an SC geek till judgement day either way, but where do the cards come from? My sub has only lapsed for one issue in ten years. Is that a transgression? Do they flutter down into your shops like huge gold leaf tailings or what? I have never even seen one of these things.

Steven,
About six times a year, SC sends out a little packet call an Action Pack. They are roughly 4" x 6" in size and have all kinds of advertisers, printed by SC and mailed to their US subscribers. Tom told me they can't send them to Canada for some reason. Seems like there are about 40-50 cards in each packet, but I never counted them. Most people probably glean through them at the post office and throw them away...except I keep the two collector cards each time. Signs of the Times also sends out the mailer packs, but no collector card.

That was my observation also, Mike. And yes, lots of names could be added to the list.
I found out how the magazine's view their respective 'stable' of writers once when I did an article for Signs of the Times. My editor at SignBusiness asked me (politely) to not do that again as there was sort of an unwritten agreement between them all to not use each others writers for their mag's. No big deal.
But a collector series - if undertaken - should include the industries best sign designers, pinstripers and other related craftsman, shouldn't it? I mean if you have the best sports athletes on cards it stands to reason that that would be a main motivator behind doing a collector series.
But you're exactly right, Mike - it is totally their call. I just never understood the logic behind the selections - but did comprehend why they do it that way.
I'd put you on my list, Mike!! Well, if I had one.

#3 - Raymond Chapman
#5 - Mike Jackson
The only time I have ever been ahead of Mike Jackson. But then, I'm a lot older, also.

Ahhh shucks Raymond, you know all of us would just love to snag even the design rejects you do, much less the masterpieces you actually produce!
